I have done my taxes and about 75 other various returns as well.

Next up- getting our extensions out there for the deadbeats.

Some notes.

-Owing and planning to owe is good if you are disciplined. If you aren't sure talk to your tax guy around June to see where you stand for the year.

-Owing and not planning to owe is not so good and I hate breaking that news to people.

-The state of Ohio still has their marriage penalty which is a real PITA. It means they process a lot of extra returns, and generally complicates things.

-The cities are greedy sobs.

-the 15th can't get here soon enough

Sounds like someone engaged in my prior career - public accounting. I literally remember sifting through the proverbial shoe box full of receipts. Dumbasses paid us through the nose for that kind of disorganization.

The income tax is a hideous concept. The notion that citizens have to account for every aspect of their personal financial activity is unconscionable in a so-called "free" country, as there are plenty of ways to fund government without one. After all, we did it for over 100 years. But the politicians love it, the lawyers love it, and sad to say many of my fellow CPAs make their livings off it, so it's never going away. :pissed:

Sorry...rant over.

Economic Stimulus Payments Information Center

Updated March 29, 2008
Starting in May, the Treasury will begin sending economic stimulus payments to more than 130 million households. To receive a payment, taxpayers must have a valid Social Security number, $3,000 of income and file a 2007 federal tax return. IRS will take care of the rest. Eligible people will receive up to $600 ($1,200 for married couples), and parents will receive an additional $300 for each eligible child younger than 17. Millions of retirees, disabled veterans and low-wage workers who usually are exempt from filing a tax return must do so this year in order to receive a stimulus payment.

Updated March 17, 2008 ? new 1040A-3 package

You've heard about it. Now find out how to get yours.

What is it? It's an economic stimulus payment that more than 130 million households will receive starting in May. It's not taxable, and it won't reduce your 2007 or 2008 refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.

Are you eligible? The vast majority of people who file a 2007 income tax return qualify, and many who don't regularly file a tax return may qualify as well. You're eligible if you have a valid Social Security Number (SSN), can't be claimed as a dependent on a tax return and have either an income tax liability or "qualifying income" of at least $3,000. Qualifying income includes any combination of earned income and certain benefits from Social Security, Veterans Affairs or Railroad Retirement.

Go to this site to see when you will get yours:

Stimulus Payment Schedule for Tax Returns Processed by April 15

People who file a return after April 15 will receive their economic stimulus payment, but probably about two weeks later than the schedule shows. A return must be filed by October 15 in order to receive a stimulus payment this year. See the online calculator for an estimate of the amount you will receive.
A small percentage of tax returns will require additional time to process and to compute a stimulus payment amount. For these returns, stimulus payments may not be issued in accordance with the schedule above, even if the tax return was processed by April 15.
