Tag being banned in schools (merged)

This is new? I got a one-day internal suspension for playing tag in the 6th grade. Of course, my middle school was in pretty rough shape. It's sad when you have three police officers permanently stationed on campus, have about 1 schoolday a month shortened because admins get wind of "kill the crackers" day, and watch out a bus window as riot police show up to restore order.

No more Red Rover?

Red Rover has been banned around here since the early 90's.

I believe supervised to be a loose term in relationship to recesses. At my children's school there are 3 recess monitors for k-2, and 2 for 3-5. Used to be one teacher per grade...no longer.

Cutting out games like tag and 2touch football will also make for restless kids in class. How will they ever sit still if they cannot efficiently burn off steam. Kids are not wired to sit still for multiple hours at a time. Hell, neither am I.

Did you know access noise in the lunch room is discouraged as well? There is a middle school here that has been known to ban talking completely during lunch. Can you imagine? School officials are losing their minds.

We played 'Kill the man with the ball' in grade school (which was basically run until you were gang-tackled) on a blacktop parking lot.

... i broke my ankle during recess and was told by my teacher to basically shut up and go back to class... *ponders* any chance i could still sue almost 20 yrs later? it like... scarred me... or.. something.. GIVE ME MONEY!!!!!

this is obsurd. its not surprising in the least. but it is obsurd. as others have stated, this type of thing is going to have very negative fall out. an entire generation of obese, hyperactive, and doped up to keep them under control children. schools need to get back in the business of educating children and out of the raising children role.

If you were the last kid tagged, you would be it forever, or if he moved into a new district, there would be 2 kids that were it......this is going to cause mass confusion.

By rule, the new kid becomes it automatically. No trouble there.

But the old neighborhood would have zero "its." They wouldn't be able to play, anymore. I guess the idea of banning "tag" is better than the next best way to quit letting them play "tag:" just kill the kid who's "it" (or send him to Siberia) and they'd be forced to go spend recess waiting for recess to be over.

I, for one, think it's great that parents and teachers are finally restoring control and order to these hooligans. These "contact" games are nothing more than an excuse for kids to pick on the smaller, weaker kids.

You don't have to agree with the rules, but you damned sure better follow them.
