I find it interesting that Gwaltney announced today instead of signing day. IMO one or both of the coaching staffs of USC and OSU asked him to do that so they could be able to either offer or look more appealing to other recruits...no facts or inside information...just a gut feeling.
WVU already had a slew of RB's in the barn but OSU and USC did not. There may be a kid out there that OSU might get a written letter too by tommorow...say a Pennsylvania or midwest kid.
Who knows what is going on but IMO the staff offered alot of RB's...This may be the reason they were so interested in Russell because of his RB skills.

Jason to WVU is much better than losing Chris to scUM North. Also, as much I would haev loved to have Jason and after how much I rooted for him to be a Buckeye, I am really anxious to see what Erik Haw has to offer. I have liked him since he signed with us, and now he gets a pure shot at being "big back" this year. Wells, Pittman, Haw and Russell should be fine for us.

I've been hopeing for a Brinkley update for sometime.
As far as Gwaltney scareing Wells to Scum-North I doubt it. Their running back situition will likely be better then ours.
Hart last season most would say outpreformed Pittman
and
Grady is better then Gwaltney anyways.
Not that it won't help our chances but if he doesn't open up and look outside of those 2 schools, i'd say we should be the leader (without even the fact he is from Ohio and OSU will kill SCUM again this year) so I don't find much comfort in loseing Jason.

my cousin in Syracuse played with Mike Hart for 3 years in high school. my cousin was his fullback and then played linebacker on defense so they were pretty tight. i knew hart from when i went to go see my cousin and it hurt so much when he went to scUM but he gets my cousin into parties with the football teams at braylon edwards' house and all that.... ill have to get my cousin to ask hart what the deal is with the RBs over there.....

If we didn't offer Javon Ringer anything concrete because of academics, there is NO WAY I could accept Ohio State offering Curtis Brinkley.
Duane Long was quoted in the Dayton Daily News about how the Ohio State staff had no doubts about Ringer as a player, but that the academic side of things at OSU are changing dramatically, for the school as well as the program (average ACT score of entrants has gone up 3 points since incoming class of 1995). Ringer did have the knee injury this year, but the hold up on his recruitment had nothing to do with "proving himself" his senior year on the football field. It had to be 100% an academic issue.
That being said, Curtis Brinkley was in even lower academic standing than Ringer was this year. Brinkley seemed as if he was lucky to graduate high school based on his reported scores and his interviews. He is the equivalent of a guy like Greg Packnett was from Dunbar or Paris Long was: Great athlete, but face it....they are not student-athlete material.
