Would you be alive if this was the year 1906 instead of 2006?
Has Modern Medicine saved your life? I'd imagine there are quite a few on the board who would be taking the dirt nap.

I'd have been long dead and in the ground.
Had Pnemonia when I was 9 pretty bad. Doubt I would have survived.
Heck just last month I had an infection in my elbow that worked it way up to my shoulder. Would have been dead from that too.

1 had Bronchitis.....

1 Got penicillin and was alergic to it and almost died.....

Maybe scarlet fever... that used to be much more serious.

My father had some relatively routine surgery when I was in grade school. Mom said he realized that at any other time in history, the situation might well have been fatal. He told her he wondered what would happen to the rest of the family in that case, and that he was looking at being healthy as his chance to make sure we were always going to be all right. He's done an extraordinary job of it, too... I'm very lucky.

I would be blind, that's for sure. Retinas detached after a sporting accident, but thanks to the wonders of laser surgery I can see. The 9 days that I was blind really put things into perspective.

I'm 99.99% sure I'd be dead... I probably wouldn't have made it past two weeks old as I was very sick when I was born. Same with my boys when they were born.... modern medicine saved their life.

I had asthma (sp?) really bad as a kid. There were many trips to the ER for oxygen and shots to help me breathe. I probably would have died from that.

I had to get stiches in my chin when I was about 5 and the doctors gave mepenecillin and it turns out I'm allergic to it and I got some wierd disease in my kidneys (nephritis) and I think the doctors said I could've died from it.

I didn't think they knew how to "cure" penecillin right after it was discovered...but anyway, I might have killed myself because it was painful even with todays medicine.

No penecillin, no allergic reaction, mate.

You mioght have gotten your chin infected, but as long as it wasn't too deep... you should have been fine.

I was a pretty sick kid, and had to have my tonsils ripped out. I don't know if that would've killed me at three years old, but that's really the only problem I ever had.

I had the flu really bad when I was about three (doctors originally thought I had Spinal Meningitis), and from what my mom told me they thought they were going to lose me. Then I had testicular cancer in 1991 (no way in 1906 would they have found it), so I'd probably be dead from it by now.

I'd have made it... my Mother and God must have made a deal... I'm the youngest of 17 kids... Mom must have said... "I'll give birth to them.. but they damn well better be healthy"... plus we didn't have any money so it's not like we'd have had medical care even if we needed it
