FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England coach Bill Belichick stayed true to form Thursday, refusing to discuss Tom Brady's health a few days after the quarterback was photographed limping in New York with a cast on his right foot.
"I don't have any comment on it," he said during a news conference before the Patriots held their first practice in preparation for the Feb. 3 Super Bowl against the Giants.


Brady did not show up during the first 15 minutes of practice, when reporters were allowed to observe, and it was not known whether he would participate after the session was closed to the media. When asked at the news conference whether Brady would practice, Belichick said: "We'll go out there. I don't know.
"The injury report will be out next Wednesday, and we're excited to get that to you, filled out completely, and I can't wait to get that to you because I know you're anxious for it."
Brady reportedly has a mild high ankle sprain.

Peyton sees more title games for brother Eli

Giants quarterback Eli Manning is following his big brother's footsteps in leading his team to the Super Bowl.



EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Don't for a moment think this is going to be the only Super Bowl for Eli Manning and the New York Giants.
Big brother Peyton Manning, the 2007 Super Bowl MVP, believes the Giants' run this year is no fluke and Eli is going to lead New York to a number of NFL championship games, possibly even one next year that will have both of Archie Manning's sons playing for the title.
"They're a young team and they're going to be in the mix every single year," Peyton said yesterday. "It certainly could happen, and I couldn't tell you how I'd feel about it until it happens. Maybe next year we'll have to answer that question."

At its core, football is a perilous mix of danger and glory.

It's a violent sport in which one play can end a career and affect many others. But those who overcome football's inherent brutality to reach its greatest heights feel a thrill few can appreciate.
Whitehall graduate Domenik Hixon has experienced both extremes this season.
Hixon will be the New York Giants' kickoff returner when they play the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII next Sunday in Glendale, Ariz. For that, he is thrilled and grateful.

To oddsmakers, picking Patriots a roll of the dice

Although the rest of the sporting world might look at the New England Patriots as being one win away from completing an unbeaten season, Las Vegas views them through a much different prism.

To the oddsmakers on the Strip, the 18-0 Patriots are 10-8.
"As far as the point spread goes, that's correct," said Chuck Esposito, director of the race and sports book at Caesars Palace, where the Patriots were installed as 14-point favorites over the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII.
"Granted, it's a lot of points," Esposito said, "but we looked for a number that would draw good two-way action (an equal number of bets on both teams). We're not predicting who is going to win or lose."

Brady sheds boot for trip to Arizona

Tom Brady returned. His boot didn't.
The New England Patriots quarterback walked with long strides and without a limp in his brown wingtips yesterday as he headed for one of the five buses that took the team to its flight to Arizona for the Super Bowl.
For the first time since last Sunday, Brady appeared in front of reporters and photographers in Foxborough, Mass. At a departure rally shortly before the buses left, he walked without slipping on a light dusting of snow on the Gillette Stadium field as flurries fell.
"Now this is Foxborough faithful right here," Brady told a cheering crowd of about 15,000 after he reached the podium at midfield along the Patriots sideline. "We can just go ahead and play the game today. Thank you guys for coming out."

Bruschi's fifth Super Bowl special

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Rodney Harrison looked over his left shoulder at the helmet hanging on a hook and proceeded to encircle the Patriots logo with his finger.
"This is Bruschi right here. That emblem right there, that's Bruschi," Harrison said. "In my opinion, that sums up Tedy Bruschi, what this Patriot team is about: unselfishness, commitment, dedication, teamwork, hard work, just everything."

Super Bowl notebook: Brady takes part in Patriots' practice

Tom Brady was back where he belongs yesterday, behind center for the New England Patriots' first practice session of Super Bowl week.
Brady missed three practices last week with a tender right ankle, which was taped for yesterday's practice at Arizona State. He appeared to have a slight limp but participated in all phases of practice, including jogging the length of the field twice at the end of drills.
Coach Bill Belichick declined to comment on injuries or elaborate on Brady's presence.
"Everybody practiced," Belichick said. "The injury report will be out Wednesday."
Brady's return from an injury sustained in the AFC championship game was a welcome sight to receiver Wes Welker.
"Any time the MVP of the league is back, it has to be a positive," Welker said. "He looks good -- the same dimples and all."

Giants' Burress gradually shedding negative labels

Plaxico Burress caught 11 passes for 154 yards for the Giants in the NFC title game against the Packers.



In his first five seasons in the NFL, Plaxico Burress made many friends with the Pittsburgh Steelers but never reached the Super Bowl. After he left as a free agent in 2005, the Steelers won the title.
Some of the receiver's friends, such as Hines Ward, Joey Porter and James Farrior, remembered his telephone number. "The next day, after they won, they were like, 'Hey, man, you just missed it,' " Burress recalled.

Media day has taken an odd turn

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Super Bowl media day has become a freak show.
Mexico City's TV Azteca sent Ines Gomez-Mont to media day. She wore a skimpy white wedding dress. She also wore red pumps to be, as she said, "more sexy."
She came to propose to Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
Told Brady already had a girlfriend, model Gisele Bundchen, Gomez-Mont held up a T-shirt that said: "I'M THE REAL MISS BRADY." Told Brady had a bad ankle, she said: "Yeah, but I'm going to take care of him. Don't worry."
