If you do that, they get the ball at the 25. Urban’s strategy was to make them start at or inside the 15. I assume Day is adopting the same strategy. Over time it’s led to OSU having a big advantage in starting field position. It’s been a winning strategy. The occasional return past the 25 doesn’t change that.

before the fair catch rule, I liked the strategy. Now that they can fair catch the high ones and return the low ones, I’m not as much of a fan.
