  • i was at a wedding last night, and as always happens with my friends - college football smack talk happens all night (1 scum fan, 2 cryiami fans, about 10 buckeyes). the scum fan made a bet with me for a case of beer...

he said teddy ballgame gets less than 7 TD's this year - total (rec, rushing, punt return, ect). i couldn't shake on it fast enough...

my question is how many TD's do you think that teddy will have this year?

You did stipulate the kind of beer didn't you?
oh yes, we have a friend that works at World Market, and she will supply us the case of boddingtons when Touch Down Teddy gets #8  . for some freakish reason that teddy doesn't do it, then all i have to buy is a case of miller light (only beer that he will drink)!!!

I think that Ginn/Holmes will score 25 touchdowns. Teams will start by trying to tie down Ginn, and Holmes will score left and right. They'll then try to keep Holmes down, and Ginn will score like crazy. I think that's why Pittman/Haw will also do well.

But to answer the question, I chose 14+.

I think whoever coined "Teddy Ballgame" deserves a case of beer...best nickname, ever.

I will go with 11-13. I think he'll be used as a decoy more often this season than we suspect, drawing coverage towards him and away from Holmes, or anyone else with hands for that matter seeing as we got talent out the ass at WR. Of course, he'll get those TD's with 30 touches or something really absurdly low like that.

This reminds me of the argument I had with some on here about how many "ways" Ginn scores last year. I'll have to dig it up but if I recall correctly some people were wayyy overboard on that.

I think this is the same as well. I see the 7-10 range but wouldn't be surprised in the least with 11-13.

I think coverages are going to roll to his side. 3 & 4 WR sets will help ease that but I'm not sure that is OSU's game.... yet.

Factors which could (note I said could not would) hamper his production:

    1. Poor QB play.
    2. Double (triple?) coverage.
    3. Lack of overall offensive production(again goes back to the QB play & on a more limited scale the RB play)
    4. Quality depth at WR. Holmes will get his and Gonzo will snare a bit too.
    5. The one we all fear the most - i n j u r y shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh who said that.... :paranoid:

*side note - looked up last years stats. 14 TD's would put Teddy at around 7th highest for WR's. Nobody was close to Chad Owens of Hawaii (and you know how much they throw it) with 22 total TD's. 17 receiving 5 return. 2nd place was 16

Even if he doesn't become a better WR, which he clearly was as the season progressed... he should still score 10 TDs easily, even in a morbid offense. Here's my responses to your comments.

    1. Poor QB play.
    - QB play was not good until UM, and he racked up a number of TDs. Returns were and always will be his forte
    2. Double (triple?) coverage.
    - Nobody is going to double cover Ginn when Holmes is on the field.
    3. Lack of overall offensive production(again goes back to the QB play & on a more limited scale the RB play)
    - MSU is a perfect example. We were awful on offense, and look what he still managed to do by himself (with a little blocking at times)
    4. Quality depth at WR. Holmes will get his and Gonzo will snare a bit too.
    - Gonzo could bump up his productivity, but neither of those two will probably be taking the reverses, or at least not as often.
    5. The one we all fear the most - i n j u r y shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh who said that....

The only way we have more than two losses is if our Coaches suck this year.
Gonzalez would start at any other school in the country. The only way they stop Ginn and Holmes is if they double both of them which would leave us in 9-7 situations which a monkey with a clipboard(Lee Corso) could coach to a win with. This is the best chance we will have till Ginn is a Senior.

    That many touchdowns, really?
I say 11-13, but it could easily be more. I'm trying to resist dinging BSH for saying that thing that he said.....but I think I'll just ignore it and pretend it didn't happen.

MSU is also a perfect examle of why he will get doubled... if he keeps beating people they HAVE to do something about it... if that means taking their chances with Santonio.. then that's what they will do... Clearly its not the best idea... but if you're watching film and he's beating single coverage over and over... then... you can't just throw you hands up and not make the other guy beat you.

I realize its a pick your poison situation... but... the alternative to Double Coverage is going to be to Blitz... and I say the opposition should do that too...

Anyway... I think the real good part of this exercise is to see, once again, the the problems that these WR's present... reality is that opposing teams are really going to try to work hard to disguise the coverages and mix things up a lot.... all you can do...
