Lately the people that our company has been hiring seem to be incredibly book smart but lack the common sense skills to the point that you question how they can drive to work without hurting themselves, or anyone else. My Latest is one lady that i showed how to do something, she took notes and wrote down exactly step by step how to do it. Later that week she called me with questions on how to do it, i said "well look at your notes" and she said that she was getting confused by them.
Now I know that we have all new employees take a personality test to see how they will fit in with the people they work with, but i think we need to add one simple test....
Lock them into a room with 2 keys, and if they try the wrong key more than 1 time, dont hire them.
