    GALESBURG, Illinois (AP) -- Five students denied diplomas after cheers erupted when their names were called at a high school graduation emerged empty-handed Tuesday from a meeting with school administrators.

    The students and their families met briefly with Galesburg High School officials at an administration building, but they were again denied the diplomas because no one apologized to school officials for the cheers at the May 27 ceremony.

    The students in the central Illinois town about 150 miles southwest of Chicago will still graduate and receive their transcripts, even if they don't receive the keepsake diplomas.

    Breaking news - common sense has prevailed in Galesburg High.
    Galesburg schools relent, give 5 students diplomas

    Published June 6, 2007, 5:22 PM CDT Less than two weeks after five Galesburg High School students were denied diplomas because relatives and friends cheered during their graduation ceremony, school officials reversed their decision.

    "It is time for the good of the community, the school district, the families and the students involved to move on," Gene Denisar superintendent of Community Unit School District 205, wrote in a news release Wednesday. "The members of the Class of 2007 behaved appropriately. Unfortunately, some of the audience did not, which caused the disruptions at this year's graduation ceremony. I have decided to grant to the students involved their diplomas."
    The decision came on the same day an attorney for three of the families threatened to sue the school board if the diplomas were not given to the students by the end of the day Wednesday.

    District officials also said they were influenced by an opinion from the Illinois State Board of Education in which the agency said it could not support the punishment because the students didn't do anything wrong. The district's statement said officials will review the graduation policy to ensure the ceremony remains a "respectful and dignified occasion."

    This was a stupid situation anyway. Students graduating and getting their diplomas is something to be celebrated and should be something to be proud of but instead people care more about things like American Idol than kids graduating. Every graduation I ever participated in they say the same thing "please refrain from cheering until after everyone has recieved their diploma" it doesn't give them the right to withhold it if people do cheer. Hell when I graduated from Capital my dad yelled "Go Bucks, Michigan Sucks!" I love my dad and I love the fact that he did it. Makes me laugh just thinking about it. :biggrin:

    The fucking Galesburg administeration should just be glad that they didn't find a "BIG BOY" on the school roof.

    Stolen Big Boy Statue Turns Up at School

    GAHANNA, Ohio (AP) - Students arriving at Gahanna Lincoln High School on Monday morning were greeted by a 7-foot statue of a rosy-cheeked lad that was pilfered from a Frisch's Big Boy restaurant.
    The 200-pound fiberglass figure of the chubby boy in red and white suspenders was reporting missing Saturday morning from its concrete base, only to turn up on the roof of the school in the Columbus suburb, police said.
    Officers believe it may have been a prank by seniors, Gahanna police Lt. Jeffrey Spence said. No arrests had been made.
    A school maintenance crew removed the statue with a forklift and returned it to the restaurant, Spence said. The statue, valued at $7,000, was not damaged.

    What do you mean who cares? These kids - they ripped off Big Boy. They should be prevented from ever entering college, and if a college is fool enough to let them in, never be allowed to graduate.
    First it's a Big Boy statue prank, next simple piracy.
