I used to have that argument with an old coworker. I was paying just over 2% and could write off the interest for years. I took the difference and put it into retirement savings. He paid off his loan immediately and then bought a new car.

I actually graduated in May of 95 and took some MBA classes a few years later. They stopped my payments while I was enrolled again. I had to make them start them while I was still taking classes.

Now only another 5 years on my wife's student loan.
