Stock Market Report: One game into the season, the Buckeyes are undefeated

Will Howard and Jeremiah Smith showed out in their Buckeyes debuts, and the defense found the end zone two times.
Even though it may not have felt like it, the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes rolled through the Akron Zips 52-6 to open up the season. There are some clear things to improve upon, but there were plenty of positive takeaways as well.
Let’s examine who and what we think you should buy stock in after Week 1 and what you should avoid.
I shouldn’t have to explain this one very much. Smith came into this game as one of the most anticipated freshman debuts in Ohio State’s history, and left the game with one of the best freshman debuts ever.
He is the best receiver on this team and might already be the best receiver in the country. That is despite only playing 60 minutes of college football.
There has been a lot of talk over the offseason about Howard being handed the keys as the quarterback in Columbus, and he was impressive in his first game. Howard threw for three touchdowns and worked through some early mistakes to finish with an impressive stat line.
Maybe most importantly, he looked comfortable throughout afternoon, no matter what was happening.
Burke entered the season as one of the top cornerbacks in the country, and he backed it up immediately. He grabbed a SportsCenter Top 10-worthy interception, and kept Akron from getting anything going in the air all game.
Burke is exactly as advertised and maybe even better. There are some good receivers in the Big Ten, but Burke can take anyone out of the game, as he has proven in years past.
Yeah, I am just not used to it yet. Also, I was trying to find the Idaho-Oregon game, and it was on the Big Ten Network. I am not used to that yet, either.
Big Ten on CBS and SEC on ABC feels illegal, but I will eventually get used to it sometime in 2027.
There is truly no better ambassador for Ohio State than Archie Griffin, and he finally received some of the recognition he deserves. The official statue of Archie Griffin is now forever outside the Shoe, and Griffin became just the fifth Buckeye alumni to dot the I in Script Ohio.
I recognize this one is a little controversial, but this is in anticipation of the run game getting better as the season progresses and Chip Kelly gets more comfortable calling plays for TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins.
Even in this one, where it felt pretty bad, they ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns. I think by the end of this year, and once they get Howard more involved, this could be a lethal rushing attack.
If it weren’t for Miami, this would have been the worst opening week for the ACC in a long time. Florida State and Clemson lost, Virginia Tech got upset by Vanderbilt, NC State struggled with Western Carolina for three quarters, and North Carolina needed two missed field goals to get past Minnesota.
Miami might walk to the conference title this year.
