Spring Practice Discussion, and Why I Think It's Unfair That I Don't Get to Watch

I believe Mark Sanchez made a comment something to the effect of "I feel like we played this game 5 times before, they did exactly what we saw in film."

Which says what exactly? His comment would be far more meaningful if he were a linebacker rather than a quarterback. Our defense has more of a reactionary mindset than a disruptive one.

It's impossible to gauge just how much constituent elements of an open practice affect a football team, other than acknowledge their existence and potential implications. That acknowledgment alone far out weighs, in my mind, any consideration given to allowing fans to open their Christmas presents early.

THAT was a thing of beauty.

My favorite part was, RIGHT before the snap, ONE safety noticed that there was a slight difference between the formation in front of them and the Jumbo package they'd seen a million times on film: The tight-end was not a 350-lb tackle, it was Ted Ginn Jr.

The ball was snapped almost coincident with the safety pointing at Teddy, but by then it was too late. Even the safety who pointed at Teddy was frozen for a split second by Troy's fake; and as we all know, a split second is WAY too much time to give Teddy.

I found out this morning that Pete Carroll's on Twitter and JT's not.

[DaddyBigBucks] It would not be possible to exaggerate the magnitude of the tweet that I do not give about that. [/DaddyBigBucks]

I don't think it's as much about secrecy, I think they just prefer insulation. In my opinion, it's not as much about what people can take away with their eyes, but rather how their presence can take away from the focus & small things about practice.

As a photographer, the extreme nature of their privacy is disappointing, but I certainly understand it. Players need to get better during practice, not play for the fans/media. Another element are details from practice leaking out. I believe a player's injury (Tyson?) popped up on the message boards before they could let the family know.

And while Tressel's playcalling is a bit predictable, it is still best to keep out unwanted eyes... even if only for a few instances. If folks (and potential UM scouts) are allowed to watch practice in 06, would UM have been better prepared for Teddy lining up at TE in a hurry, rather than assuming that Beanie = run (like normal)?
i used to go on my lunch hour/break and get a bite to eat from time to time and watch practices. i cant tell you how many times players were waving, reacting to the stands or checking out the cutie sitting in the stands. i think it allows for more focus and "control"

personally i dont see it as a mega issue. the staff has done a fine job with the spring game and the fall open practice making them big events and allowing nearly everyone to catch a glimpse in person at a reasonable/or free price.

Now that's understandable.

Even still, I don't think it'd hurt to allow just a little more time to the media. Even just one or two more practices and I'm a happy camper.

Just sayin'

Pretty sure it says Spring Practice and pretty sure it's the offseason. Have you taken a look at the "TSUN news" or "recruiting tidbits" threads? This discussion is relevant to the thread.

But, I'm done anyway. Nothing left to discuss.
