I remember last season when i asked for the spread offense and was slammed down by plenty of people who wanted o be the smashmouth football team of the past. I still with to see a RB who will go out of his way to hit another player but i know the sread O is the one for the buck this year. I knew it.
No you claimed we should switch to a spread offense in mid-season...

You know what? That JT will give plenty of ideas for DC's to prepare for?

JT will have a variety of looks, but the Pro-I will still be his foundation. Bank on it.

I will believe this opening it up stuff when we have a 7-10 point lead on texas and still throw on first down, and second down. and try to put our foot in their neck and smoke them back to texas.

but if we just open it up in the 1 quarter get a 7-10 point lead than run troy smith straight up the middle on first down, than run brandon schnittker straight up the middle on second down, than smith fakes a pass and runs it himself on 3 down. than hell no we just the same old tressels with better weapons.

the optimistic in me thinks we will put our foot in peoples neck this year,

but the realist in me thinks once we get a touchdown up or 10 points we will seat back and wait until time runs out and we win by 1 point on last second field goals.

Like grad said, the personnel is perfect. We have speed and versatility everywhere. And more coming in this fall. Notice last year we ran so many different offensive schemes.

We ran an I form against Cincy and NC State. We saw the single back bunch formation against Marshall. We opened thigs up more after haltime at the Purdue game. By the time we rolled into the Michigan game, LLLoyd really had no clue what to prepare for. That element of surprise will be noticable on September 10th. We use a very limited playbook for Miami. Use just what's necessary to win.

Then a week later, I can hear Tressel repeating the words of General Maximus Desmus Meridius "On my signal, unleash hell"

hmm... i'm pretty sure that the 'shot-Ginn' is a spread formation...

FWIW,Tressel ran more plays out of the 4-wide shotgun than any other formation last year, and that's a fact... the spread is here, boys, and it looks like it will be pretty potent...

i was reading last week's Buckeye Sports Bulletin, and in it Heacock was saying that this spring the O was concentrating on perfecting the shot-Ginn, while the D was concentrating not on stopping it, but merely on SLOWING IT DOWN... the D was badly overmatched though, as evidenced by the 54 point pounding they took in the Jersey scrimmage...

if the Silver Bullets can't stop the Shot-Ginn, NO ONE can...

You don't say? Thanks for educating me. :wink2:

If one of the young backs can step up...I don't see the spread being our base offense.

Maybe I'm wrong and part of me hopes so...but I will believe it when I see it.

BTW, Welcome back LV...

IMHO, there is a miscommunication concerning the Spread offense itself....

When people hear Spread Offense, many immediately assume Steve Spurrier and the Fun & Gun, Chuck & Run, No huddle, adjust on the fly, Peyton Manning calling the game at the line...

tOSU may very well use the spread formation this year to open seams, take the pressure off of young backs, and hopefully open up some man coverage to exploit with our athletes.

However, this will more than likely not become a wide open, crowd pleaser...

Just my opinion on the thing...

remember there are multiple ways to run the spread offense, you can be steve spurrier and be pass happy, you can be mac brown and have a power running attack, or you can be urban meyer and mix the two.

I find it funny that people keep putting Dukes so high on the list of weapons for next season. Did anyone else watch the spring game? I know he wasn't around until the spring quarter, but IMO Dukes has a long way to go before he we be someone that can be counted on in a game. He dropped several balls, looked lost most of the time as to what his assignment was, and he had a fumble. Right now Ginn and Holmes are 1a and 1b with Gonzo as the clear 3. Lyons, Dukes, Jordan (probably in that order), and anyone else are going to have to fight for the 4 spot. With Hamby, Frost, Nicol, and the RB's I don't see JT using more than 3 WR's very often. Haw looked good catching the ball out of the backfield.
