Spring Football - 2005 (mega-merge)

I'm not nearly as worried as I was a few months ago about the kicking situation. All signs point to Huston getting his med red shirt and I think he is going to surprise a lot of people. His maturity will be greatly needed at that position, and I think the fact that he was in Nugents shadow for the past 3 years will really end up helping him be better now. He wouldn't be at Ohio State if he wasn't any good.

As far as the 2nd corner spot goes, I think it's still really up in the air. I think over the next few months the right guy is going to step up. I'm not worried about this position at all, because I think our secondary is stacked. Tressel and tOSU coaching staff do a wonderful job in positioning players where they can be most effective. With all the talentent DBs we have this year, there is no question that we will be strong there. Plus, with our front 7, it's not like any QB is going to have time to throw the ball anyway.

It seems like I'm the only one worried about Huston kicking. Anyone remember his stats from last years spring game. I seem to think he missed a couple (3???). Hopefully its better this year, or I'll really be worried.

If there has been one thing that has consistently happened since JT has been here it is that mediocre kickers have turned into excellent kickers. Will Huston become another Nuge? Of course not. But I am certainly not going to bet worried because he missed a few in the Spring game last year.

I heard that he had been fighting some naggin injuries to some part of his leg. Also I asked Nuge at one of the signings I went to in Findlay(Josh's hometown) about what he thought of him and he said he will be fill his shoes nicely.

Kicking really turned out to be a game winner for us and I really would like to think that it won't be Nuge but it will be someone else who can get the job done if we get inside the 35 and really need it. I know how unrealistic that is, but the difference between 35 and the redzone is significant. That Marshall kick with 2 seconds has been a real wakeup call for me.

I'd like to see Pretorius show something of real quality but the truth is that rugby kickers haven't done all that well when replacing a football with a rugby ball. When South African Naas Botha was the world's best, the Dallas Cowboys captured him with much fanfare but couldn't get him to make the transition and eventually cut him. In rugby, he went right back to kicking through the uprights from 55+ yards away.

Quinn Pitcock is probably the biggest playmaker returing on the defensive line but he will have many other experienced mates with him across the front who are all ready to come into their own. And the unit as a group is very deep, especially on the inside. Combining with the talented linebacking corps, the front seven could be as talented and relentless that you'll find anywhere in the country.

IMO, Nader better work harder in the weight room if he wants PT.
Nadar is already huge, its just the fact he is 6-5 that he looks skinny. His game is speed anyways. He will be fine and in my opinion become a star on that line in the next two years.

Going back to the Whitner at corner thing again really quick, I think maybe a lot of people have forgotten just how little man-to-man our CBs play and how insanely much they play different packages of zone. Most likely, no matter who is at the other corner, they're probably going to be playing a flat more often than not. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a pair of lockdown corners out there who can just put receivers out of the game, but I don't see that much man with Youboty being the only one with sufficient college experience at the CB spot.

Good point. Yeah we do play alot of cover 2 zone so I suppose that what we need is just a sure tackler.... well in that case can we put Hawk out there? and then move D'Andrea to outside? haha jp but I think we'll see a bit of both next year with man and zone.

Hmm, in those pictures of Yobouty vs. Ginn, it looks like Bouty got torched!

Oh man... is it good news or bad news?! Haha and what's worse, the throw looks like it was overthrown too.
Considering he was man up on ginn to only be behind by THAT much is pretty impressive.
