The 07 players were outstanding at Spiece
On Saturday I watched 15 hours of hoops in Ft. Wayne but I still wasn't able to see anywhere close to all of the players there.

Given that, here are the Top players that I was able to see.

1. Greg Oden 7-0 (06) C Outstanding talent but he could stand to play with more intensity. But to show you how good he is, I still have to put him first.

2. O J Mayo 07 PG everything about him is highly advanced except his grade classification, he looks like he is in his 20s but I know he is "only" maybe a couple of years older than his peers in this class.

3a. Dar Tucker 6-4 (07) WG from MI, A little smaller but a better rebounder than Alex Legion so I'll give his performance a slight edge. (Top 15-20 in the country in 07 IMO)

3b. Alex Legion 6-5 (07) WG from MI, it probably just depends on when you see the Michigan Hurricanes, but most think Alex is the better prospect. I saw these guys play 2 games Legion had about 25 I would say in the first game and Tucker had about 30 vs the IL Wolves in the 2nd game. (Top 15 or 20 in the country in 07 IMO.)

5. Eric Gordon 6-3 (07) SG Spiece Indy Heat, was bigger and stronger than when I last saw him last summer. (top 20 in the class also)
He was great inside and outside scoring at will.

6. Daequan Cook, 6-5 (06) SG OH, Was also outstanding scoring inside and out, plays smart tOSU sure got a good one.

7. Billy Walker (6-6 maybe) SF OH, O J Mayo's teammate had the highlight dunk of the day and is an outstanding athlete and offensive player. Lazy on the glass and wasn't interested in playing any D or he would be Top 3.

8. Nate Miles 6-6 (07) SF played for All Ohio Red
Very skilled, slasher who was outstanding in a loss to the 16U IL Wolves He is an absolute STEAL for Xavier who he was said to have already committed to.

9. Korie Lucious (0
63032_cool.gif
PG Wisc DTA, Big time talent in a small player, Knocks down threes, gets to the rack , drives and dishes. He was rated at least by some as the #1 FR in the country.

10. Mike Conley 6-1 PG IN, Is very solid running this talented team (Spiece Indy Heat) Nice outside shot and he gets others the ball where they can do something with it.

Others who played well: (Next Ten)

Will Walker 5-11 (06) PG IL Wolves
Isiah Martin 6-8 (07) PF IL Wolves 16U
D. Buycks 6-1 (08?) SG Wisc. DTA
Willie Veasley 6-4 SG/SF (06) IL Wolves
Tory Jackson 5-10 PG from Michigan Hurricanes
Jonathon Peoples 6-3 (06) SG IL Fire
Aaron Pogue 6-7 (07) PF Spiece Indy Heat
Demitri McCamey 6-2 (07) SG IL wolves 16U
Erving Walker 5-8 (08?) PG Team Next, Christ the King hs NY
Tyler Thompson 6-2 (0
63032_cool.gif
SG Spiece All-Stars Elmhurst, IN hs

I just don't see it......

Tom Herzog, 7-0 (06) C Michigan Hurricanes (Not bad, but...)
Joevan Catron 6-5 (06) F Meanstreets (Big Arguments...)
Brian Carlwell 6-10 C (To be fair he was said to be hurt)
Jon Rice 5-11 (07) PG IL Wolves 16U... (pretty good shooter)

Players I wanted to see but didn't.....
Richard Semrau 6-10 PF (you know why of course)
Marques Johnson 6-5 G Blessed IJN (Just wasn't able to...)
Albert Jackson 6-10 (06) C KY Hoop Stars....just curious
Derrick Rose (07) PG Mean Streets Express (No Show)

If you want to know more about any of these players or others not mentioned ( I'm probably leaving some out that I should talk about) so provided I saw them play.....I'll be glad to give you my take...

I promise not to bash them (unless they deserve it..j/k
63032_mrgreen.gif
) or to blow smoke up your butt (I call it happy talk.)

Or EZ box me if you would like to do that instead.

Re: A Spiece Tournament update (IL Teams)
That isnt as great of a matchup as it looks on paper D1 has played them in past years and I dont think they have ever won. They lost todays game by 20 pts.

Mayo had 27 pts on a bunch of shots

Cook had 20 including a nasty dunk all over Mayo

Pogue played well I think he had 6 pts

Oden had 24 pts

Bill Walker had 11 pts

Conley had 8 pts and alot of dimes

Mike Conley was named the Tourney MVP

I think the final was 77-58

Edit: Eric Gordon had 15 pts
