The 2008 SR class can become the winningest class in OSU history in terms of total wins. They are currently at 33-5, good for an .868 win %. They are chasing:

Class of '98 (1995-1998)
11-2
11-1
10-3
11-1
Total: 43-7 (.860)

Class of '05 (2002-2005)
14-0
11-2
8-4
10-2
Total: 43-8 (.843)

Class of '75 (1972-1975)
9-2
10-0-1
10-2
11-1
Total:40-5-1 (.880)

and the class no one will ever touch in terms of win %......

The Super Sophs of 1968-1970
10-0
8-1
9-1
Total 28-2 (.933)

So its 10 wins to tie the record, 11 or more to set it. If anyone's wondering, 13 wins would make their career total 46-5 which would still "only" be a .901 win %. No one will ever catch the Class of '70 in terms of win %.

The Super Sophs only amassed that record in 3 seasons. Add in the 4th season at say 9-1 for the average and they would be 37-3. Thats still .925 winning percentage. Brutal!

Four straight seasons of 11-1 would only be .918 or .92%. Thats unheard of and you are all right, never going to be touched. A class would have to have 1 undefeated season out of 4 with only 3 total losses. Wow.

Miami class of '03 was 46-4. .92
USC class of '05 was 48-4. .923
Nebraska class of '97 was 49-3. .942.

it's not unheard of. it's been done twice this decade.

Actually, Nebraska's class of '97 went 49-2 (13-0, 12-0, 11-2, 13-0). Their class of '96 went 47-3 (11-1, 13-0, 12-0, 11-2). That 49-2 record works out to a .961 percentage.

....it's not unheard of. it's been done twice this decade.

I was referring to around here. I understand its been done before.

There's always the Sophomore's from Oklahoma in 1954 who went 31-0 over 3 years and the freshmen from that season, had they been allowed to play, went 41-1 over their 4 year careers. Neither of those two statistics will be surpassed in NCAA IA football.

Off topic a little more the Freshmen class of '96 at Mount Union went 54-1, 98% and the '00 freshmen went 55-1, 98%. If they dont lose that championship game to Rowan in '99 that team wins 110 straight games! Ridiculous!

Anyway, back to the Buckeyes of '08.

I have seen the enemy and it is me. :(

With great shame I must confess I missed giving credit to possibly the greatest OSU class of all time because it happened well before my time.

I give you the Chic Harley class of 1919*:

* The classes nucleus played in 1916, 1917 and then 1919. 1918 was interrupted for WWI when Harley, Stinchcomb and company were in the Army.

Class of '19*:
'16: 7-0
'17: 8-0-1
'19: 6-1
Total: 21-1-1 (.935)

Some highlights to consider
- Chic Harley-'nuff said
- They won OSU's first B10 title in 1916 then won it again in '17
- They outscored their opponents 292-6 in '17 !!
- They notched OSU's first win over scUM in 1919
- They outscored their opponents 726-47 for their careers

Everything we enjoy about OSU football, the tradition, the winning, the national recognition, right down to the stadium we watch our Bucks play in is owed to this group.

This might lead to its own thread but hopefully this says thanks in a small way to those guys for now.

I do have to point out that the 09 senior class has a chance to better the "super sophs" record (win percentage). Granted, they would have to run the table this year and next, most likely winning the NC two years in a row, but the door's still open. If the 08 team goes undefeated, the 09 team can still lose one game and best the win percentage. As unlikely as it is, it is still a possibility, just sayin.

If all that happens then its just further proof we are watching some of the greatest days in OSU histoy.

09 year is going to be sick... watch out for up and coming freshmen too that'll step up this season to help out!

We're supposed to have 2009 as our "down year". The core seniors are gone and these freshmen (then sophs) are too young to dominate. But who knows, lately our down years still mean outright Big 10 championships and trips to the NC game, so maybe you're right.

Ya every year is sick, it never ceases to amaze me how great our recruiting is... plus the rest of the Big Ten sucks so that always helps
