You know what I find amusing? Its amusing when the best part of your "big time college football program" is the graduation rate! Do not get me wrong, academics are very important but when you get on a message board and defend your "big time college football program by stating graduation rates, well it really shows how far Notre Dame has fallen off the field, once again let me say that I do believe that graduating is important, but for the purpose of this board, I cant remember the last time I got chills about somebodys grade point average or graduation rate.

You have a pont as ND was never in the game but you have to admit that for a while the OSU-MICH game was very ugly.

While it's true that Michigan got a big jump on us and for a while it looked like a potential blowout, I've seen Tressel-coached teams for too long to have thought that the game game would continue down that road. I've seen two of his teams rally from 28-0 mid-third quarter (or later) deficits in major games to rally and tie the score at 28-28 (1992 I-AA title game at Marshall and the 2002 Outback Bowl against South Carolina). I knew his team would not fold like a Cooper-coached team would, and they didn't. Not many teams can rally from not one but two 21-point deficits in the Pig House in the same game to have a chance at tying it in the fourth quarter. Michigan played their best game ever with Navarre at QB and we still kept it close.

That study is the official one that induced the NCAA administrators to taking a closer look at the graduation rate issue. However it should be understood in its true effectiveness and validity.

That study followed an entire 4 year football class initiating in 1996. These athletes were given 6 years to graduate and the report was published in 2003. This, however, is not a cumulative report and obviously does not include all other athletes who inrolled into class in 1997, 1998, etc.

Regardless of how this study may be interpreted, there is no doubt that ND is at the forefront of academic excellence in the school and on the field. I certainly hope that my school will get there in the very near future.

Just out of curiosity; what do you think would happen in South Bend if coach Ty were to continue graduating players at a 92% average and lose 5 games each year for the next two?

It is fun to see "rival" fans on this very new yet excellent board.

USC - He does that for the next 3 and he is gone.....
I think he gets the whole 5 years.

I still think Jon Gruden will be at ND someday.

I wondered why nobody posted OSU's grad.rates then I looked! Ouch!

Basketball has been down this year so I'll give you that for now. As for baseball, considering last year's losses and the history of the program, I'll take you up on that one.

Anything else you want to compare? Wrestling, gymnastics, synchronized swimming?

Chief I actually respect your homer faith. It takes guts (or a massive case of stupidity:biggrin: ) to come onto this board and stay true to your school

As for wrestling ND does not have a team but does have a few good wrestlers. I know how they did in the Big 10 and it was not good. If you think OSU has a good wrestling team because of how they did in the NCAA then learn the sport and get back to me later. BTW -OSU has one great wrestler and have an outstanding kid form IN. coming in.4x IN state champ and finished 3rd in the country at senior nationals I believe.

Hockey- You won a close one last year but both made it to the big hockey tournament.

Baseball - OSU had a good year last year (ND beat them in the tourney 2years ago and wentto the series) but OSU baseball is not in ND's league. ND is a top5 to top 10 team that has won 40 games a year 12 years in a row.

Syn. Swimming -who cares!

Lacross and soccer -ND would dominate as well.

You already have a great coach at Notre Dame, it would help if the schools administration would give him a level playing field, its only common sense, name me another school where the administration of the school hands the head football coach a list that he can recruit from, I know...I know....before you respond that ND's standards are high, well thats great and congrats but everyone your competing against has lower standards and thats why the best "football players" are going elsewhere, notice I didnt say best student, if this board was about graduation rates, we would talk about it, but its obvious that the majority of the people who come to this site only wish to talk about football not if Joe Nobody got an A+ in geology, nobody posted grad rates because it doesnt mean much to the average fan.

Its also amusing that this is a football thread and since you know we would whip your $#% in that sport, it has turned into who has the "best" sports programs! I find your arguements about graduation rates and who has the better programs to be slightly amusing but borderline boring.

Please come to the realization that ND football will never dominate unless they get with the times, good or bad, its the way of college football, they should accept the fact that the majority of the best talent in the country doesnt even consider ND because of the academic requirements, now its great to have such high standards academically wise, but please dont think you can have high standards on the field in this day and age because it will not happen the kids coming out only have one thing on their minds and thats to get to the NFL.

OSU has won 40 games 8 times in 12 seasons with 6 B10 regular season championships, 5 B10 tournament championships, and 9 NCAA Tournament Appearances. Quit making them out to be the Cubs or something..."oh they had a nice year"...how about a nice decade.

ND: 0 national championships in basketball, 0 in baseball. OSU has 1 in each.

44820 - I did not start this thread and I could give a rats a$$ if you find it boring! Dont like it don't read it or respond!!

And instead of ND lowering it's standards schools that don't graduate players need to get off there duff's and do there job!! And by the way it looks they all better get in line because of the proposed NCAA requirements.
