Apparently Mili doesn't know what the word contend means...you can't have an opinion on here and be strong about it without it being wrong...it's just how it is.

Uh, really? This isn't the olden days? Damn, better sell all my disco 8-tracks then. What you apparently don't understand is that an unbeaten season is not "unfulfilled" in the eyes of a whole lot of people. If you win all of your games, that's all you can do. I don't give a crap if ESPN or John Saunders or some TPW with an AP ballot thinks we're national champions or not. Newsflash: there is no official recognized NCAA national championship in I-A football (and no, the BCS doesn't count)...if the boys go out and win everything put in front of them, that's all they could ever do....how anyone could not think THAT is what is beyond me.
You don't understand the implicit choice at hand. Of course an undefeated season is all you could ever ask of a team. In my mind, if tOSU went undefeated and didn't get a chance to play in the BCS NC game, they'd still be the best team in the country. The blame for not letting them play in the title game would be on the voters and the BCS system, not the team. This is obvious. However, the point was to choose between two alternatives: an undefeated season that didn't land us in the title game, or a 1 loss season in which we could still play in (and win--I'm not sure anyone would take that scenario with a loss) in the BCS championship game.
Personally, I would rather finish the year #1 in both polls with the NC trophy (NCAA recognized or not) than anywhere below that. Would I still be proud of our squad if they went undefeated and finished #2, or lower? More than words can say. But given the choice, I (and I'm guessing our players) would take one loss and a championship.
If all that matters is what YOU think about the team's accomplishments, why not just make up a little paper mache trophy and give it to tOSU every year? I mean, the BCS isn't official either, so they're basically the same right? Solipsism can be fun...

Okay...I have no clue what solipsim means...you pretentious bastard.EdDantes22 said:It's not "selfishness" to express one's personal preference. Solipsism enters the equation when you insist that your opinion is the only legitimate one and the views of everyone else (i.e., the national media, poll voters, the BCS, basically everyone but yourself) mean nothing. I didn't do that; you did. My point is that most people want a little validation from somewhere else besides their own head, or, in this case, their own clearly biased fellow fans.
If you find that boring, sorry. But why attack me for my "vocabulary"? When a word means precisely what I want to say, I use it. You used selfishness, which sounds less pretentious, but is also not the right choice of words for what we're talking about. So why should I be unclear just because you have a problem with words over 3 syllables? I'm not trying to insult anyone's intelligence; if I thought people wouldn't understand "solipsism," I wouldn't have used it.
I would guess that less than 5%, and that's a generous percentage, of people on this board know what solipsism means. I'd say your perception is a little off if you thought that was a word most people would understand.
Okay...I have no clue what solipsim means...you pretentious bastard.
OK - just stirring the pot a little here. (Pretentious Rant On) EdDantes is using the word solipsism with a meaning that it is often, incorrectly, applied.
His use says Solipsism = Dismissal of Other Views as Unimportant
In reality Solipsism is = a doctrine that holds nothing exists independent of one’s own mind.
This may appear to be a small difference, it is however a significant one.
EdDantes is not the first to err in the use of the more pejorative "meaning" of solipsism. The dismissal of his views as seen by EdDantes from Bucklion's responses to the thread are not evidence of solipsism on Bucklion's part. They may be congruent with, but is by no means identical with solipsism.
