  • My wife and I are having a new roof put on the house this week and we figured while we were at it, we'd get two skylights and a solar tube.

Anyone out there have a solar tube? A buddy of mine has two of them and he really likes them. We're having it put in above our staircase going upstairs as it it a bit dark w/out the hall lights on. We're having it installed where we have an existing recessed 'can' light, and we're getting one with a 'light kit' so at night, when we flip on the hall light, the solar tube will function like a normal light fixture.

The architecture firm I work for has installed several. They ARE pretty cool. Did you get a three year (or longer) no-leak warranty? incompetent installers are notorious for putting in solar tubes that eventually leak. I hope yours doesn't!

With the hall light on, does it look like a spotlight from outside your house?
