Anyone planning on seeing this?

Might take a trip up to Hot Springs, AK to check it out.

I'm already in the heart of it.... it's going to be a massive shitshow.... multiple counties have already declared disaster areas, my kids had school canceled for the day due to the influx of people in the area and they dont wanna have law enforcement having to worry about schools (whole other thread for that subject). My guess is unless you got someone you know ... you might be SOL unless you're gonna drive there for the day or so....

Wife and extended family have been planning this for almost 4 years (major eclipse chasers). Have a house reserved in Mazatlan. Kid and her BF are currently in Mexico City and will be joining them. I'll be enjoying my vacation by sitting at home drinking beer in my underwear.

Cleveland. I'm interested to see what the eclipse looks like through the clouds. It might be neat. Maybe.

The eclipse should hit around 3:00 that day. Right when schools get out. I told my wife how much it would suck to be stuck in traffic after picking kids up from school. Anyway, they cancelled school that day, now.

By the way, I'm laughing about all of the "OH NO!!! PEOPLE ARE COMING TO OUR TOWN TO SEE OUR ECLIPSE!!!" There was an eclipse some years ago. 2017? 2018? I forget. But we drove to Paducah, KY for that. That was supposed to be the super awesome bestest spot to view that one. We got hotel rooms for about $55. And not cheapo rooms, either. (Not super fancy ones, though.) We were the only ones in the parking lot during the eclipse. Maybe there were a million people congregating at the local observatory. (Does Paducah have an observatory?)
The eclipse lasts less than 5 minutes for totality. Maybe 3 hours of "interesting" partial eclipse. But no one will be watching for 3 straight hours. You aren't going to get an influx of thousands of "outsiders". You might be able to rent your house out for the weekend, but you aren't going to get $10,000 a night.
It's a neat thing to see, and I'm excited for it (even if it is overcast). I think everyone should make it a point to try to see one. But it won't be another Woodstock in your back yard.
