  • Seems that they are starting to link up a bunch of cases and getting the FBI involved to see if indeed this is some type of serial killer gang. A couple of the cases are in Ohio.

FOXNews.com - Detectives: 40 Drowning Victims May Have Been Murdered by 'Smiley Face Gang' - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News

At least 40 young men who drowned may have died by far more sinister means ? serial killings at the hands of a national gang that revels in murdering young men and leaving smiley-face markings at the scene, a team of retired New York City police detectives and criminal justice investigators said Monday.

Serial killers RARELY work in a pair, much less in some kind of group or gang. Serial killers EXTREMELY RARELY "sign" their kills with a symbol. The original Zodiac is the only one that comes to mind, and that was in writings, not at the scenes. I think labeling these connected kills "serial killings" is incorrect.

"Signature" characteristics, such as the binding and torturing that helped the BTK killer gain his name, or the bow tie left behind women's necks that earned the Boston Strangler part of his nickname, is not the same as "signing" a kill like this smiley face does. Those are things a serial killer does because it makes the incident pleasurable for him, it turns him on or satisfies an internal desire. It not a John Hancock type of signature, it's an action always taken because it makes him/her feel good.

They are saying this smiley face is a way of showing who did it, proving to the world it was this gang, a tag, proof of kill. A serial killer doesn't generally do that.

Or maybe I am misunderstanding how the media is putting forth this "smiley face":

    Giant squids did it!
The giant squid has the largest eye in the natural world. Although squid's eyes evolved on a separate branch of the tangle bank of life, they are remarkably like ours, except that they don't have the blind spot that human eyes have (Hack #16). This picture is from a book 'Extreme Nature' by Mark Carwardine (which the Guardian Weekend ran a piece on two weeks ago). This immature female is 17 foot long, but they go up to 49 foot apparently.

I'll go on record and say that stupid emo teenagers are launching their diabolical plan to rid the world of non-emos through subliminal messages using 733l sp3ak and texting on Myspace and Facebook and through their cell phones to coordinate the killings.

Britney Dead - In 6 Months!

FOR the first time ever, the exact mental condition that is driving Britney Spears towards total destruction has been identified by a top
Globe Magazine - Celebrity, Photos and News

Since the link updates constantly, it's main page story is no longer about Britney, making the rest of us wonder, even more than usual, wtf you are talking about or meaning by posting star gossip in a thread about possible serial drownings. Well, I can't speak for the rest of us, but I WONDER. :tongue2:

This bewilderment is further enforced by your next post in the same serial drowning thread about killer squid. Lame joke? Preposterously thin segue into an environmental commentary regarding the rarity of such squid? Or just simply another glimpse into the convoluted machinations within your brain that further confirm the board's suppositions that you are stoned out of your gourd all the time?

I saw a video that explains the theory a little better. According to the ideas that they have come up with. The killings have not been done by the same person, but instead it is a gang that has different pockets throughout the midwest, and there is a heirachy within each of these gangs.

So in a way it is not a "serial killer" but instead and "serial killer gang" so to speak as the gang goes after and kills only a specific type of person.

It seems like it might be a strech, but honestly I never thought I would read a story about some guy keeping his daugther locked up for 20 years and have 7 kids with her either

I somewhat disagree...many serial killers do leave a kind of "calling card", such as the bow tie, and not simply because it is a pleasurable thing for them to do. Most serial killers are extremely arrogant, and derive some type of sick satisfaction in taunting the fact that they do what they do, and that they get away with it. The killing itself gets them off, but they also want the recognition and "credit" for their "handiwork".

In this situation, I agree that the killers (if this is in fact the work of a gang) would not fit the typical serial killer mold, although there are some parallels.

This story brings to mind the young man that was last seen leaving Ugly Tuna on campus...last I heard, nobody has seen him since. Potential victim?

He has been mentioned, but they don't have "proof". One that they think is definitly connected is the kid from Ohio University that drown a few years ago.
