Skybus: Cheap, savvy and roomy

By Richard M. Barron
Staff Writer

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Skybus flight attendants look like rock 'n' roll roadies in their black T-shirts, black pants and sneakers.

It's fitting because Skybus carries the personalities you might find in a cantankerous rock band: squirmy children, high-spirited young adults and veterans enduring one more day on the road.

Move over, Charlotte: Columbus is booming
By Richard M. Barron
Staff Writer

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? This city is a big mystery to many Triad residents, but Skybus is about to reveal the truth: Columbus is booming. And it's not a bad tourist spot, either.

A 2006 study ranked Columbus' economy as the seventh strongest in the nation, according to factors such as salaries and job availability. Charlotte ranked first on that list.

Skybus plans to fly to Mexico, Bahamas

Low-cost carrier Skybus has announced that it plans to offer cheap flights to Mexico and the Bahamas.

The airline - which caused a stir in the industry by offering $10 cross-country flights - has filed an application with the Department of Transportation (DOT) to fly the new routes six days a week.
Skybus hopes to begin the service on October 1, with nonstop service between its Columbus hub and Nassau, capital of the Bahamas, as well as party hotspot Cancun, in Mexico.

In its application, Skybus says that DOT approval will "enable the carrier to continue to develop a variety of services throughout North America", reports USA Today.
It goes on to say that the flight will "greatly serve the public interest by providing substantial competition to other carriers serving Cancun and Nassau from the United States".

Nassau & Cancun - WOW!!!

Charlotte on verge of getting airline service

CHARLOTTE COUNTY -- Airport officials say the return of scheduled commercial airline service at the Charlotte County Airport is imminent.

But they are keeping the identity of the airline that might be providing the service and the time line of the move close to the vest.

If the new service arrives, it would be the first service at the airport since the 1980s.

The best guess among Southwest Florida airport and airline experts is that the potential provider is Skybus, a Columbus, Ohio-based ultra-low-fare carrier that primarily serves secondary airports in 11 major metropolitan areas.
