Did anyone else read about this start-up airlines that is offering $10 flights to Boston, L.A, Seattle and a few other places. Apparently, they have alot of investor cash to use as start up money and are using Airbus aircraft.

Yep.. the Buttocks' are gonna go help Sushi keep Boston weird for a bit, LOL... all 4 of us, round trip $140.00 total (including taxes and all) that is NOT per person, that is for all four of us to fly...

How do you make a splash as a startup airline? Try $10 fares. Skybus Airlines is expected to announce this morning that it will sell at least 10 seats on each of its flights for $10 one way before taxes and fees, according to a source familiar with the plan who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
That means dozens of people who are quick enough to book the fares will be able to fly for about $40 roundtrip to cities including Los Angeles, via Burbank, Calif.; Kansas City, Mo.; and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
After the $10 fares are sold out, Skybus officials have said fliers can expect the remaining fares to cost about half the current norm to the same destinations from Columbus. The Airbus A319 planes Skybus will fly will accommodate about 140 other passengers.

The $10 flights are usually tuesday-ish, and only departures... weekends are as much as $100.

I had to go to October to find a semi-useful option... $10 departure (on Tue) & $50 return on weekend.

Great find tho! I'm going to look into this further. We might be able to go see friends in LA years before we could typically, as newlyweds fresh out of college.

Online Travel Review

Skybus has said that they'll be the first US carrier to cover its airplanes in advertising, and they seem to be keeping their word: photos are out of the first A319 which is covered in an ad for Nationwide insurance. European and Asian lowfare airlines have done this for years, but its the first US carrier to try the same strategy.

Online Travel Review

Skybus has announced their first set of destinations, and so far my predictions from yesterday are correct. In May they'll be flying to Burbank, Portsmouth (NH), Kansas City, Richmond, Bellingham (WA), Ft. Lauderdale and Greensboro. They'll add Oakland in June.
They'll offer 10 seats at $10 on every flight. This is supposedly not a promotion -- they'll do this forever (until they don't do it anymore). Like Ryanair, they'll be selling everything. A quick check of fares shows the $10 seats available on many days. On days where they aren't available, they range from about $40 each way to Ft. Lauderdale to about $50 each way to Burbank. Cheap, obviously.
The biggest question, and here's where they differ from Ryanair, is that their base is in a small city. Ryanair's bases (in London, Dublin, Paris, etc) are in larger cities, even if they fly to minuscule dots on the European map. So, we'll be keeping an eye on whether they can lure people from Dayton, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Akron and Cleveland on the basis of $10 fares.

There's a discussion of this over at flyertalk. A lot of folks -- including me -- think this isn't the best thought out business plan.

This morning all the flights went on sale... and literally every single flight I looked at from Columbus was $10. By now a lot of the prime flights are booked past the initial 10 tickets. I was ready to buy tickets out to Seattle for the OSU game this September for $41 round trip. By the time I got to work and checked again they were up to over $100 each way. Still plenty of great flights though.

Still plenty of great flights though.

10tv says Skybus sold 60,000 tickets by 5pm today. Is that good? who knows... a lot of those were probably $10 fares.

For those flying to Boston from CMH, JetBlue has great deals, especially during the week. And they fly into Logan, not Portsmouth.

I reserved 2 to fly to Portsmouth. Head to Maine for a couple of days to pig out on lobster, then head to Fenway to see what all the fuss is about.

Didn't get the $10 seats but I can't complain for $56 each round trip.
