SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

Lot of sighs of relief from shit weasel fans today. A lot of them think they finally have the upper hand.

I'll go on record with this:

I'd take Ryan Day as my coach over the harbrau. Why? They may ask...

Potential. Jim Harbrau is who he is. A pretty solid coach who will probably have you average around 10 wins a year. He'll also pretty much suck under pressure, lose to his rivals more often than not and frustrate the shit out of you with his stubborn adherence to a dated "man ball" offense. He'll recruit reasonably well, but your school won't be a "destination" for a lot of super star recruits. And the ones you do get will turn out okay. He's also a goofy motherfucker.

Ryan Day is brimming with potential. He's young, charasmatic and has a brilliant offensive mind. He's spent two years apprenticing under a master of his profession. While the chance is there that he won't work out, he has all.the traits of a "rock star" coach.

I'll take potential over proven "meh" any day of the week. Ohio State as a program will never again stand for 10-3 and a loss the last week of November every year again.

I'll use the same logic I used when Harbaugh took the job;

Harbaugh is still behind in overall depth of talent. If he doesn't start closing the gap in recruiting he isn't going to consistently change the results on the field.

From this point forward who recruits better?

Simple Jim or Ryan Day?

Urbs' legacy for this team will play out after he leaves. Hopefully, it doesn't tank the way that Florida did when he left from down there...

The simple fact that Day is, if nothing else, a proven QB coaching guru who should be able to recruit elite QB talent should prevent that level of meltdown.

Recruiting, coaches who stay and who he replaces them with as he doesn't have Meyer's cache

Recruiting will continue to be good. It will likely drop off a little bit just because Urban was the creme de la creme of recruiters, but it's still Ohio State and Day appears to be energetic, personable and competent. Pantoni and co. staying, at least for now is HUGE too. I think that Meyer had somewhat of a mixed reputation as someone one would want to work for and expect THE Ohio State and Day to have more than enough cachet (and money) to attract great assistants. Whether Day correctly identifies who to go after is an open question.

Gee did himself in by thinking he was not merely just important to the university's future but too big to fail. That hubris allowed him to wear out his welcome pretty quickly his second time around. That being said, the right President is vital to the university's future. Drake may not be transformational in the way that Hayes (de-facto Prez after returning from DC), Thompson or Jennings were, but they also were on the scene at crucial junctures for the university's future. Drake inherited a machine firing on all cylinders, but that doesn't make his job easy nor does that momentum preclude the possibility of the wrong guy screwing things up. Drake has taken what he was given and consistently moved it forward. The trustees, the foundation board and the Orton Society crowd recognize that, which is why they did everything possible to keep him happy and feeling wanted.

No argument from me. The wrong hire could also screw up the foosball here, but based on the available evidence I have a lot of confidence that Day will be very good at worst.

This is the million dollar question. It should be Day, but we won't know for sure for a few years.

I think 10 is an ambitious avg. He peaks at 10 every 2-3 years or so, going 8-9 in between.

The killer for me is that he's not a good recruiter, not even a good judge of 3star talent.

I'm not sure what to expect w/ Day but we need to get Freeman back in the WHAC imo

10-3
10-3
8-5
10-2 (bowl result pending)

That looks pretty solid compared to dickrod and hoke. But then you realize he’s 2-7 against sparty/nd/tOSU and 1-2 in bowls...so, 3-9 in “big games.” That’s Cooper-esque.

9,10,8,10 regular season at Michigan w/Hoke's highly rated classes
4,5,8,11 at Stanford.

Ill give him a pass for first 2yrs at Stan.
That junk class he slept on his first year will become important next year.
The 16 and 17 classes were highly ranked but more out of Quantity.
The 18 class showed the honeymoon was over, finished behind Tennessee.
All that to say... i dont think they can sustain 16 and 18 w/o Hokes guys and after the media hype has faded.

Liked this post because I agree we need to get Freeman back in the WHAC. Rising superstar, cerebral, and understands and loves OSU. Would rain hellfire on the recruiting trail with the benefit of an Ohio State pullover.

DFBIA doesn't understand this important point. While OSU is losing an all time great in the retirement of Urban, the talent gap didn't get one bit smaller yesterday on the field. That gap is vast. Especially when you consider the last 2 classes specifically.

Day can't just throw his headset on the field and expect to win. But, there's every reason to believe Day keep the train a-rollin and scUM tears a-flowin.
