  • anyone on BP know sign language? My wife and I have started to learn it since our daughter is hearing impaired. She hears fine with her aids, but we were told that she will learn faster with sign language plus we both have been wanting to learn it anyway. We have been working with her for a few weeks now and she is really starting to pick it up. its amazing to watch her and see that she really knows what it means.

Here's the extent of my knowledge...

    iab,

Kids pick up sign language quicker than spoken words.

They teach it in most daycares these days.

Kids about a year old can sign for words such as "hungry."

A GREAT idea even if a child is not hearing impaired.

Being from Y-town you should probably make her familiar with some of these.

I know last time I was up there I saw some of them.

If I recall this one above is loosley translated as " Get your honky ass the fuck out of here before I shoot you, and so forth"

My Sister is a speech therapist, and is fluent in ASL. She taught me quite a bit several years ago, but I have only retained about half of the alphabet, and almost none of the words/phrases. Due to lack of use.

Actually, know a bit.... BKB and I taught it to our kids before they could speak... I think it helps children to be less frustrated since they do a great job learning it and expressing themselves with signs before they can even speak.
