SI Poll: OSU vs Notre Dame ranking

Nah guys why even worry about it.... ND is almost certain to get either OSU or Penn State. In either case ND is going down hard. Why? Becuase Notre Shame has not faced a single team with a stellar defense. Notre Shame hasnt faced a gifted mobile quarterback either.

Id love and I mean LOVE for the buckeyes to get to face Notre Lame....
Notre Dame hasn't faced a gifted mobile quarterback? I seem to remember them losing to Michigan State. Drew Stanton plays quarterback for Michigan State, right? Way to make a good point. :shake:

Holy CRAP this pisses me off that this is even a question. Anyone who somehow lives under a dumbass-rock that thinks that Notre Dame doesn't get preferential treatment by the polls and media is totally airheaded. Goddamn in I need to rant right now!

Look at what they've done: wins over Pitt (5-5), Michigan (7-4), Washington (2-9), Purdue (5-6), BYU (6-5), Tennessee (4-6), Navy (6-4), and Syracuse (1-9)...and a loss to Michigan State (5-6).

That's beating teams with a combined record of 36-48, and losing to a team with a losing record...but it's really worse than that. They've beaten all of 3 teams that are bowl eligible, and NO ONE WITH LESS THAN 4 LOSSES. Of those, one (BYU) is in a mid-major conference where they got 5 of their 6 wins, and the other (Navy) has 6 wins by beating teams with a freaking combined record of 9-54....9 and goddam 54! This is supposed to be the killer schedule we hear about? Playing teams that finish 6th or worse in BCS conferences and in the middle of the pack in mid-majors? I know they can't help how bad teams are in a particular year, but please spare me the freaking "Wow, what a schedule!" crap. The last time some of these "traditional" teams was any good was 10-15 years ago.

Now, all that said, does anyone really believe that any team, I mean ANY TEAM, besides Notre Dame with this schedule and these results would be ranked any higher than 20th?

amen, bucklion. however, i do think that notre dame or any team with that record deserves to be ranked higher than 20... but not by much. the game against usc still carries a lot of weight, and it should. nonetheless, the weight that the media have given the usc-notre dame game is that of a yukon denali when it should be that of a honda civic. if you were to switch fresno state (at 19th in the bcs) with notre dame, i'd have no issue and, in fact, i'd agree.

i've stated this in a previous message:

notre dame losses:

usc by 3 at home, went down to end of game
michigan state by 3 at home, team currently unranked with a 5-6 (2-6 big ten) record

fresno state losses:

usc by 8 away, went down to end of game
oregon by 3 away, team currently 10-1 and in bcs top-10

But it's worse than that, because if Notre Dame was 8-2, and got freaking murdered by USC 61-3, they would still be in the top 10-12. I wouldn't care if some miracle close loss put them higher like they are if a blowout would drop them a lot...but it wouldn't...I've seen it too many times before. It would fall back to the "well, look at their schedule" crap, and they would still be ranked higher than they should, even if USC would have demolished them.

Using the BCS we lost to 2 teams in the top 3 by one score...they lost a close one to USC and lost to Michigan State, who I think is just ahead of Villanova in the BCS...and yet they're (the media assclowns) talking it up like there's some equality to that...how?

that's possible but improbable. i know that notre dame homership is strong, but such a defeat would likely send even the most beloved team below twelfth in the bcs poll. maybe. i don't know. it's a hypothetical i don't want to consider too much.

Right, but remember when the game was...over the last month, Notre Dame would have gotten a meteoric rise in the polls by beating teams like 1-9 Syracuse...and that affects the BCS. You're right, it's hypothetical, but like I said, I've seen it too many times already.
