Yea, but as already stated by BB73, Jack has been on 24 times.

24, thats gotta be up there as far as most times on the cover. I would assume Michael Jordan would hold the record.

He does.

Michael Jordan leads everyone with 49 covers, followed by Muhammad Ali (39), Tiger Woods (25), Jack Nicklaus (24), Magic Johnson (22), Shaquille O'Neal (18), Pete Rose (17), Kobe Bryant (17), Larry Bird (16), Wayne Gretzky (16), Mike Tyson (15), Sugar Ray Leonard (14), Mickey Mantle (13) and Joe Montana (13).

These records are being distorted for marketing purposes, though. They now have little inset pictures most of the time (which are counted when doing a search for SI's covers), and they had 6 different covers for the college preview issue last month.

That was the one that put the game away. With the new clock rules, Mack Brown didn't have enough time in the second half to catch up.

You need more than a half. And, three scores against Ohio State in six minutes is always do-able.

Whether he's on the cover before the season is over I can't say; but I will say he'll be on the cover the 2nd week of December.
If Troy is to appear on a cover, it will either be the third week of November, or the first and/or second week of January. The first December issue is always the "Sportsman of the Year" issue, and the second December issue typically goes to the winner of one of the CCGs or the winner of USC/UCLA, depending on whether any of them are involved in the national championship hunt. You've also got NFL, NBA, and College BBall in full swing.

I'll bet Greg Oden appears on a cover before Troy appears on one again.

I'm just sayin' that I think he'll be on the cover when he picks up some hardware at the downtown athletic club, oh wait, they don't do the ceremony there anymore do they...

I may have been a little off with the date, I was just tryin' to figure in the delay in getting the news to press.

By the time he picks up that particular award though, it might be considered anything but news... more like a "coronation". SI is big on that kind of thing though.

I don't know. I just think it's going to be really, really difficult for Troy to win the Heisman when geniuses like Charlie Weis and Bobby Petrino are still playing their starters in the second half of 30 and 40 point blowouts against inferior competition, running gadget plays, fake punts, and going for it on 4th down so that their Heisman candidate QBs get a few more possessions to pad their stats. :roll1:

With the new clock management issues though, they have to do this just to compete!

God, I love football season. I came home today, grabbed a crisp OSU covered SI out of the mailbox. Grilled out a couple burgers while reading about my Bucks and a wonderful upcoming week of college football (where our challengers get to knock themselves off)!

I'm not starting an argument but just to clarify, Krenzel has actually been on three covers. Although the most recent wasn't him exclusively, him throwing is the main subject of the picture and his name is in the discription at the bottom.

And of course...
