LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The big green ogre keeps getting bigger.
"Shrek the Third" took in $122 million in its first weekend, breaking the franchise's own record for best debut ever for an animated film, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The latest adventure of the ogre shot past 2004's "Shrek 2," the previous record-holder for animated openings with $108 million.

Took the kids on Saturday. My nine-year loved it and my not quite five-year old was into it, too. I don't know if it was the "best" of the three, whatever that means, but I enjoyed it more than the other two.

Anyone think The Simpsons have a shot at breaking it?
I doubt it. I don't think going to The Simpsons will be the family outing that Shrek is. Though if it's good I could see it grossing more in the end due to the teen/young adult repeat viewings.
