Here's the story:
On the first big field-goal attempt, Jeremy Shockey was prepping for the photo op. He stood on the sideline, arms locked and ready to fire some figurative bullets at the television cameras. It would have made for a picture-perfect ending, if only Jay Feeley had steered the ball a few inches to the right.
On the second attempt, neither Shockey nor any of his teammates dared celebrate prematurely. Like Feeley, they knew field goals rarely click from 54 yards, even when the wind is still and the temperatures reasonable, and when this one flittered to the earth far short of the goal post, the Giants sighed and went back to work.
On the third attempt, Feeley couldn't even look...
