Dunbar's Cook expected to commit today

Dayton Daily News
DAYTON | Dunbar High School basketball standout Daequan Cook will verbally commit to his school of choice today.
If last week's comments are any guide, Cook again will play at Ohio State's Schottenstein Center — whether or not Dunbar returns to the state tourney next year.
Many scouting services list the 6-foot-5 shooting guard as one of the country's best juniors. He averaged 22 points and 11 rebounds while racking up assists and steals. He has a long-range jumper and can leap with anyone.
Dunbar advanced to the Division II state semifinals last Thursday before falling 95-90 to eventual D-II champion Upper Sandusky. After the game, Cook explained why he likes Ohio State.
"The atmosphere," he said. "It's close to home. My parents would be able to come see me play. And I like the coaches. They get up and down (the court). This is the type of basketball I like to play."
Cook and the Dunbar coaches have mentioned Ohio State, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Cincinnati, Michigan and Michigan State as possible choices.
Cook got a taste of an exciting college atmosphere when was behind OSU's bench as the Buckeyes upset No. 1-ranked Illinois.
There is speculation Cook would like to attend the same college as his Indy Spiece AAU teammates — Mike Conley Jr. and Greg Oden. Those three attended a Wake Forest game.
Mark Baker, a Dunbar standout who played at Ohio State, said Cook has all the basketball tools. Baker hopes Cook follows his same path to the Buckeyes.
"I've been very impressed with his maturity on the court," said Baker, the coach of the IBL's expansion Dayton Jets. "I think he's exceptional in all aspects.
"He's not so good that he doesn't get his teammates involved. But he has the ability to take over a game when he needs to. I think he has a very unique talent that I haven't seen come through Dayton in a long time."
