SG Daequan Cook (Ironi Hai Motors Nes-Ziona - Israel)

Cook is a freshman and he started out gang busters. He played an important role in lining up the Thad 5. He came in the door and shot the lights out.

And then he had a few tough games and Lewis started pushing past him and I think the tired legs, if that is the problem, had their genesis in their head.

In anyone's mind, it was Cook and Oden who would go in the first round. They would be the two most likely to be one and done. But he has gotten a lot less attention than Conley or Lewis as the season progressed and I think there are some self-image things going on.

In my opinion, and I have seen just the few games telecast here, I think he needs another year at least at this level. He needs to rip through the competition and be the star we and he want him to be. I think that wil put a spring in his step and some arch in his shot.

My longer term prognosis, should he stay next year, is that he will be an All-American and household name. He just needs to get his confidence back and get a bit closer to feeling that he is the star he wanted to be.

I think you're thinking of an NBA rookie to be honest. I played DI college ball and it's actually no more demanding during the season than HS ball. They had a week off between Wiscy and scUM and another week off before the B10 tourney. He's logged half the minutes of guys like Durant, Wright, Conley, Oden, etc. They are all hitting their stride right now. He has excelled against the lesser talented teams, but has struggled against the more talented. He's just got alot to work on, and there's nothing wrong with that if you're a college freshman.

Axl, is that you???

I never post and just like looking around, but I think it should be said that you all are way off about Cook. None of you realize he is playing injured.

I have known Cook's highschool coach since i was about 12 and they still talk and coach pullen told me that Cook broke 2 fingers on a missed dunk halfway through the seas. This has severely changed his shot and the palls not coming off his three fingers like it should be. For a shooter, playing with broken fingers is tough. If you think he is tired i assure you he is probably the most athletic person on this team. I hear some people say weak legs? he plays less minutes than any of the guards and is the only one able to jump to get rebounds. He's not tired, just injured.

Also, supposedly his relationship with some upper classmen have been a bit strained because he has vocally criticized lewis and harris in both the press and in practice for an inability to step it up.

this is just what coach said, but i think hed probably know a bit more than some other people.

This would explain why his shot looks so flat and like a line drive towards the hoop compared to earlier in the season.

ive gone on the record mentioning hes playing hurt... but i would never say what happened as it is a violation of their rights if you do not have permession to release it. though i was told one finger.

cook will need to play a big role if this team wants to dance a long tmie. his ability to play the 2 with his size cannot be overlooked.

i said it a longtime ago. guys like cook, lighty, hunter, twig will make the diff between 16 and 8 or 4 etc...

Daequan's 3 was very big today. Wiscy had cut the lead to 3 (edit - looks like it was 4), and the crowd (about 4-1 Wiscy) was starting to get loud.

that says a lot about how you (supposedly) played in college.

conley in the 3/10 edition of the bsb:
"It's day and night between high school and college," he said. "There's a lot more wear and tear because you're playing three games a week sometimes. And each game is physical, it's high intensity and they're all big games. You're getting beat up on screens and things like that, so you have to take care of your body off the court and not try to be out too late so you can get your rest and recovery."
yeah, you're right, heisman. conley must be playing the game all wrong then.

I noticed the black bandage on his left hand but didnt actually put 2 and 2 together until just now. Sometimes its hard to tell when athletes are injured these days with all the tape and arm bands and head bands and fabric in general they wear daily. Its probably also one of the reasons they try and make these things look like part of the uniform to camouflage any injury. Thanks for the update.
