SG Daequan Cook (Ironi Hai Motors Nes-Ziona - Israel)

Is there any new recruiting info up on him?
how about the fact that he was at VCA for the upset today...that is huge. cook is supposed to decide in the next 2-3 months. there were several other recruits at the game, but oden and conley did not make it.

i noticed that he was at the game too, I hope he chooses the bucks and hopefully the game today makes his decision a little bit easier...... if he doesn't go pro
I dont sense that Cook is looking to go pro, I think if anything our chances improved with our win over Illinois, this win put us back on the map of college basketball, this is a huge win for the program and shows just how good a coach Thad Matta is.

Honestly, if Cook was guaranteed that osu would not be at risk for any sanctions and lost of postseason play while he was there, he would be a buckeye come this summer (he anticipates to decide in July last I read).

I dont think osu can make that promise at this point.

That is two years from now. Do you really think that this program will be on probabtion for 3 straight years.

He seemed to really enjoy the game from reports I heard, and I think he will be a buckeye over the summer. He sounds like a great kid and a very good player. Then hopefully he can talk to Conley and Oden.

The lack of institutional control tag is being thrown around. The problem is this.
osu wont be on probation 3 straight years, but it very well may take the NCAA quite some time to decide what punishments are necessary due to the Salyers case. So if further punishments arent handed down for a while, it very well could affect the school for quite some time.

And regardless of whether or not that is the case, i'll wager that wake forest and everyone else is doing their best to make him believe it to be true.

I'm not sure probation for a few years isn't unlikely, but I'm pretty sure NCAA probation is essentially meaningless. It's the sanctions you have to worry about. If all we get is 3 years of probation then that would mean they didn't find anything or our postseason ban was sufficient. As far as I know, probation just means your program is on watch for a certain number of years and any violations during that period would cause the NCAA to invoke harsh punishment.

that is correct, i was just referring to the above quoted comment. the point being that osu may move on next year and play without any postseason bans, only to have the ncaa come back with a lack of institutional control tag later which results in further postseason bans.

honestly, i think it will just be some public reprimand type punishments like probation, removal of final 4 banner, possible payback of tournament money proceeds, and possible scholly loss for a few years.

but if it the threat of postseason bans are enough to deter lighty, cook, conley etc... then osu is already being punished.

SCOUT$

3/8/05

Sunday was a good day for the OSU men's hoops program to impress possible recruits. There are few -- if any -- recruits they want to impress more than Dayton Dunbar star Daequan Cook, so the fact that Cook was courtside for the win over Illinois had to be a good thing. Cook talked about his visit to OSU as well as his current playoff status.
Dayton Dunbar is just two wins away from enjoying a trip to the Division II state tournament in Value City Arena, in Columbus. Cook is averaging 21.5 points a game and 11.6 rebounds per game. He's shooting 54 percent from the field and 43 percent from three-point range. Cook does not have a list of schools and will hopefully decide in the summer on a school.
