Former Ohio State Basketball Player Allan Hornyak Dies At Age 74​

Former Ohio State basketball player Allan Hornyak died on Monday at the age of 74. His cause of death has not yet been revealed.
Hornyak, nicknamed the “Bellaire Bomber,” scored 1,572 points as a Buckeye over 69 career games to average 22.8 points per game.

The 6-1 guard had a prolific high school career at St. John Central, and notably scored 86 points in a single game as a senior. He led the nation in scoring as a junior and a senior in high school, averaging over 40 points in each of those seasons.
In 1971, Hornyak helped lead the Buckeyes to the Big Ten championship. In the Buckeyes’ win over Big Ten runners-up Michigan, Hornyak scored 37 points.
Hornyak, a second-team All-American in 1972 and a third-team All-American in 1973, was inducted into Ohio State’s Hall Of Fame in 1992.
After his Ohio State career, Hornyak was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the 1973 NBA Draft, but he never played professional basketball.

Sad. What a great ball player and deadly shooter. Too bad they didn’t have the 3-point line back then.

I remember watching Hornyak as a high school student. What really was incredible was his range. Only Steph Curry and Rick Mount could match his range. All the basketball games were carried on channel 4 (NBC). The announcer was Jimmy Crum and he would yell "how about that sports fan?" after a particularly long shot.
