SF Seth Towns (transfer to Howard)

I am sure that stuff will work out but Holtmann has had several interviews now where he says he'd prefer to have 10-11 available scholarship guys in any given season but it's like he doesn't know how to pass on wings he likes.
maybe by his 12th season he'll finally have the roster numbers where he wants them.

i know transfers and whatnot are the norm and i know that ho1tman obviously has a better understanding than we do, but i kinda hope we get past the point where someone has to leave every season in order to make the numbers work. sooner or later, he'll have no choice but to crean a player, which i feel is repugnant. all it takes is a changed mind or a medical redshirt to force a player out the door.

I also wonder with all the injury and personnel issues this season, maybe Holtmann's now like, "Dang, I need all the legit contributors I can get."

I have a feeling that Holt already knew he was losing someone else besides Kaleb and thus the Towns recruitment is playing out quick because we could push for him. As far as 2021 goes, I suppose Holt's thinking a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

We don’t know when or if Harvard grad transfer Seth Towns will actually take visits before making his transfer decision, but we do know that he is focused on a select group consisting of Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio State, Syracuse and Virginia. We reported that news earlier this month, but no further developments have come about since, primarily because to the coronavirus has brought the recruiting world to a virtual standstill.

Speaking of the pandemic, it could impact Towns’ recruitment. If he is unable to take any visits for the foreseeable future but wants to come to a quicker decision, it would only help one program: Ohio State. The Buckeyes are the local program for Towns, and Ohio State is a school he has visited a number of times throughout the years, dating back to his original recruitment when he was in high school.

However, all of this is speculation. Maybe Towns will be able to visit his finalists before committing, or perhaps phone conversations could sell him on a program, even without a visit. In the end, though, Ohio State is the pick for where Towns decides. He would have the chance to play immediately and might also have two years to play.

I'm guessing its not a matter of players "having" to leave, but more along the lines of we know that players are leaving and are looking to fill vacancies.

i don't disagree, but the word "know" is not one that applies until the decision is actually made. take, for example, kaleb. we oversigned by one likely based on the assumption that kaleb would depart after this season. we're probably going to lose at least one player, but now that player may not even be kaleb.

but, again, i won't dismiss the idea that the staff knows with certainty something right now that is affecting current recruiting. thing is, what they know now they probably didn't know as recently as january.

I was referring to staff, not us minions. I can't fathom that the staff would be recruiting grad transfers without scholarships available unless they've been alerted to departures. In the case of Towns, he's got a commitable offer, so the staff "knows" of someone who is leaving. They put out feelers on a couple of guards, so they may have an inkling that DJ is considering various options. They haven't offered either a scholarship, so I would say they don't "know" anyone else is leaving, but are preparing for the possibility.

Said it before and will say it again, with as much respect as I can give to the current players- Towns is an upgrade to the roster.

I don’t like “roster management” and Holtmann may be constantly toeing that line, but Towns will help win basketball games. The Carton news starts to clear the muddy waters.

Anyway, talented, smart and a local kid too. I want.
