By Jeff Goodman National Recruiting Analyst

David Lighty might be on the mend, but that doesn't mean he hasn't been getting things done. In fact, the recruitment of one of the most highly sought after wings in America is now over.

I have always thought Fred Taylor never got the recongition he deserved nationally for the job he did at OSU. He is responsible for putting OSU basketball on a national scale when we were a football school.

Its hard to be in the shadow of Woody.:roll2:
As excited as we are about this group of recruits, they will have a long ways to go to be in the same caliber of Lucas, Havlicek and Larry Siegfried. All 3 were All Americans. In the 4 year span from 1960-1964 the buckeyes lost a total of 10 games. The worst season was '64 a 4 loss season.

They were without question the best teams OSU has ever put on the floor. In any other era, they would have like won at least 1 national championship and probably back to back.

For the record by the 63-64 season all three of those guys were gone. Of the 6 games Lucas and Havilicek lost (Frosh were ineligible then) two were National Championship games. A third was a loss at Kentucky in an era where a visiting team simply was not permitted to win at Kentucky.

The story of that final loss in Lucas' career, the condition he played under, and the way he handled it is worthy of its own thread.

OSU said to be Lighty's choice

Monday, May 02, 2005
From staff reports
Villa Angela-St. Joseph's All-Ohio guard/forward David Lighty apparently has given Ohio State an oral commitment to further his education and basketball career at the Big Ten School. He'll formally announce his plans at a 3 p.m. news conference today at VASJ.

Newspaper reports over the weekend had Ohio State as the front-runner on Lighty's recruiting list.

<SCRIPT language=JavaScript1.1 src="http://ads.cleveland.com/RealMedia/ads/adstream_jx.ads/www.cleveland.com/xml/story/s/shbab/@StoryAd"></SCRIPT>VASJ coach Dave Wojciechowski said Lighty would announce his college decision at today's news conference. But sources close to Ohio State athletics confirmed a report by the Columbus Dispatch on Sat urday that Lighty had said he would attend OSU.

A 6-5 junior who averaged more than 23 points and 11 re bounds last sea son, Lighty had the Buckeyes, Syracuse, Michigan and Arizona at the top of his list. He can sign a national letter of intent during the NCAA's early signing period in November.

Lighty underwent knee surgery last month to repair a torn ACL suffered during the district finals. Wojciechowski said doctors expect him to make a full recovery.
