Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.
MADRID, Spain -- After an illustrious career marked by nearly as many achievements as unimaginable golf shots -- including an unforgettable one from a parking lot during his first British Open win, Seve Ballesteros was preparing for the "hardest challenge" of his life Sunday after learning he has a brain tumor.
A five-time major winner, the 51-year-old Ballesteros was set to undergo a biopsy Tuesday before doctors would determine how to proceed. He was admitted to a hospital Monday after briefly losing consciousness.
"Once I had been able to inform my three children personally and their mother, I can now communicate to you the illness I am suffering from. After an in-depth check up which has been carried out on me in the La Paz Hospital they have detected a brain tumor," Ballesteros said in a statement released by Madrid's La Paz hospital.
Ballesteros did not give any more details on the test results. It was unknown whether the tumor was benign or malignant.
"I have always shown my solidarity with those people who face illness, including those whose [illnesses] are much worse than mine," said Ballesteros, who was also admitted to a hospital last year when doctors discovered an irregular heartbeat.

Ballesteros recovering after brain surgery

MADRID, Spain (AP) - Seve Ballesteros was in stable condition Wednesday after the 51-year-old golf great had surgery on a brain tumor a day earlier.
La Paz hospital said were no complications from the surgery. Spanish state news agency Efe reported the operation lasted 12 hours.
The hospital said a sizable part of the Spaniard's tumor was removed. It was not immediately known if it was malignant and it would be several days before the results were announced.
"At the moment he is conscious and stable, although he will not be able to receive any visitors in the coming days until he has recovered from the surgical process," the hospital said in a statement. The hospital said Ballesteros was in the intensive care unit. It said there would be no further statements about him until he is moved from the unit, most likely next week.

MADRID, Spain (AP) - Seve Ballesteros' brain tumor is cancerous and he will undergo another operation to relieve pressure caused by swelling and bleeding that have recently developed.
The remaining parts of the malignant tumor, located in a very deep part of the brain, will be removed in Friday's procedure.
La Paz Hospital said Thursday that the surgery is "of great complexity."
Three doctors will operate on Ballesteros. Javier Heredero, head of the hospital's neurosurgery unit, will be accompanied by neurosurgeons Marcelino Perez Alvarez and Alberto Isla. The operation is due to begin early in the morning and is expected to last until the afternoon.
The 51-year-old Ballesteros was in stable, but serious, condition before the operation, the hospital said. Based on an analysis of cells already moved, the tumor is classified as an oligoastrocytoma, a type that affects "cells that cover and protect the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord," the hospital said.

Seve was a great golfer and carried himself with class. However, I just don't understand why people do this to themselves and their families. I know that those are difficult decisions to make blow when cancer attacks the brain you are usually best off to let the good Lord take care of you.
