When I was a kid, I read this book about wwii in the European theater. Dday to VE day I think.
I don't remember who wrote the forward but it was some European general and the gist of it was, when Europeans lost the tactical advantage given a way out they would retreat and if not they would surrender. Americans fought to the last bullet.
These folks could have died like hamsters in the bsck of thst fucking plane and we'd have thought those calls were heart wrenching and sad. But that's not what happened. They recognized this shit sucks and they fought to the last bullet.
I read through the rest of this thread and its predecessors and I find the rationalizing disgusting.
All I'm going to say is that the untited states is the richest, most tolerant, least racist important country in the history of the world and if you choose to attack or degrade it in any way, I hope you find the next Todd Beamer
