Up next in player previews is a name who might not start now but has a bright future as a Buckeye

College basketball season is fast approaching and Land-Grant Holy Land is getting you ready with a series of player previews. Before the season starts this fall, check back regularly for more player previews, schedule news, features, and more heading into the 2024-25 Ohio State women’s basketball season.

Ohio State women’s basketball was active in the 2024 recruiting class. Head coach Kevin McGuff brought five players into the program to grow in all different roles on the team. Part of that group is Seini Henry, a forward who split time between North Carolina and Cincinnati, Ohio before calling Ohio State home.

Name: Seini Henry
Position: Small Forward
Class: Freshman
High School: Purcell Marian (Cincinnati, Ohio)
2022-23 Stats: 13.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 2.4 spg, 1.4 apg, 1.4 bpg, .421 FG%

Last Season

After committing to Ohio State after the 22-23 season, Henry transferred to Purcell Marian from West Clermont, both in Cincinnati. With the Wolves of West Clermont, Henry averaged a double-double in an undefeated regular season. West Clermont fell in the semifinals, ending the season with a 24-1 record.

For Henry’s play, the forward earned a spot on the second-team All-Ohio squad.

Henry played nine games for Purcell Marian and averaged nine points before moving to North Carolina with her family. Including younger brother Chris Henry Jr. who’s a 5-star commit who committed to Ohio State along with his big sister.

Purcell Marian went on to win the Division II State Championship for the third season in a row, with Henry on hand to watch her team win the title.

What to Expect

At 6 feet tall, Henry fits well into the small forward role. In high school, Henry played more in the paint but had the versatility to play on the wing. The No. 4 recruit from Ohio in the 2024 class, Henry plays a similar style to someone like Cotie McMahon who will push into the paint, take contact, and get to the free-throw line.

Inside the paint, Henry brings intensity and sticks with plays. Defensively, the forward isn’t afraid to go up for a block and follow it up by diving for the loose ball. Offensively, her ability to rebound makes Henry more of an asset for an Ohio State team hoping to figure out its issues on the boards over the past three seasons.

Prediction

When looking at the Ohio State roster in groups, with the starters taking up the first group, Henry slides into the second group of players. With playing as small forward, and both Taylor Thierry and McMahon occupying the wing and forward spots, there aren’t enough minutes for Henry to make a substantial in-game impact — for now.

Depending on how Henry learns the game and fits into the team, the forward looks like a solid choice to slide into Thierry’s hybrid third guard/forward role next season.

That doesn’t mean Ohio State fans won’t see Henry on the court this season. The Buckeyes non-conference schedule is light, which gives McGuff the opportunity to see what he has on this young team featuring seven underclassmen.

Highlights

Below is a short clip from Henry’s junior season with West Clermont, in Cincinnati. It shows the forward’s work in the paint and rebounding ability.
