Jelani is up to 17 offers now, with the most recent coming from Miami(FL). Says everybody is equal and he is just taking them in as they come, will research the schools and isn't really paying attention to recruiting right now.

My take... Jelani is 6'1" 205 and has 4.45 speed. he would look great next to Wood as the safties in this class. Impressive video, really seems to wrap up and hit the ball-carrier. Besides, we could use another stud Jenkins in the secondary as well... since Malcolm won't be with us after this coming year.

Misconceptions like yours and my younger brother who is in love with scouting too is the reason Osu will never be as good as the sec. The difference between the 2 is that they have guys like denicos allen who is 6 feet one and jenkins who run 4.4s play linebacker and swarm to the darn ball. Ppl here think just because he runs a darn 4.45 that he has to be safety..no! leave him at linebacker and lets match the darn SEC. We have some darn good linebackers now but there is no problem adapting. If he weights 205-210 right now let him grow in college and keep his speed not move him to safety and have him be an average joe.

[sarcasm]well you sure do know everything[/sarcasm]:roll2:

or maybe you let him grow in college keep his speed and become LB body playing Safety wit h DB speed and then have a guy play LB with a LB body and and gain speed onto his LB frame.

He has a year or two to develop naturally and maybe the coaches simply place him where he is best at the time. It's okay to speculate about a players position in college but there are many unknowns in many situations. [read Ginn, Gonzo(DB->WR)]

It's a bit ironic to rail against LB size stereotypes, when in fact you're stereotyping bgriff & the OSU staff, and poorly at that. The last 2 LB recruits at OSU all blow up your theory, as well as 1 from a year beforehand.

Tyler Moeller & Brian Rolle are both undersized, SEC style LBers. Another potential 07 LB recruit, Jermale Hines, arrived with the same physique as Jenkins.

Also from Moeller's class, Thaddeus Gibson is a LB who has been moved to rush end to utilize his quickness. He fits the SEC stereotype for a rush end.

No point in arguning SEC speed - games are won in the trenches. Both Florida and LSU were more physical at the point of attack, while OSU was arguably the faster team on both occasions (and certainly was against LSU).

Yup. LSU beat up OSU up front, and sustained 4 yard body blows all night... with OSU rarely able to prevent 3rd & shorts and first downs.

The "b10 speed" alumni like Matt Wilhelm, Tim Anderson and Mike Doss could have been a major help that night.

Agree...I will say it is a different style of football in the South though. The Big Ten was historically more a smashmouth conference and weather conditions have contributed greatly to that (which has been stated ad nauseum) until the evolution of N'Western and Purdue lead some Big Ten schools to run versions of the spread in their offensive packages.

What this has done is make the Big Ten a much more diverse conference. One week, you play Wisconsin, a physical run oriented offense where OL are extremely large and extremely athletic. This offense works anywhere - against the SEC in bowl games, and for the most part - against everyone not named Ohio State or Michigan.

The next week, you play Northwestern, a true spread team who will run out of the spread nearly as much as they pass out of it - if you count those short passes (screens, delays, bubbles, etc) as running plays.

Finally, you play pro-style offenses like scUM and PSU (except the 05 season). What this means to me is that it takes a heckuva coach to win 4 Big Ten championships in 7 years b/c he is constantly seeing different defenses and schemes.

Sure, we lost in back-to-back NC games and sure it was frustrating, given the "0-9" and "SEC" champs witnessed firsthand in the Stuperdome. I would argue that we didn't show up against Florida at all, especially in the trenches as LJB pointed out. The LSU game was much more competitive, but again our OL and DL didn't execute flawlessly. To beat a team in their backyard (which almost all bowl games against the SEC are, notwithstanding the 2006 NC game), the OL and DL have to dominate. Just look at what the Giants did to the Pats this year. Or us against Miami in 2002. Or the Ravens against the Giants in 2000.

The list goes on and on...the problems we've experienced the final game of the last two seasons are problems 99.999% of the FBS/Div 1-A schools WOULD LOVE to experience.

MrKnowNothing, I would have loved to have won either or both of those NC games. But I am proud to be a Buckeye, fan, student, etc b/c of Jim Tressel and what he has done for this city and for Buckeye Nation. Win or lose, he has given us something to be proud of...just like he promised at halftime of the OSU-scUM hoops game back in 2001 - Jim Tressel has delivered.

Not that it matters, when he comes north of the Mason Dixon line he won't get enough water in his system and will slow down, at least I think that was the theory.

Look - it's either devote time to the dentist chair, or time on the practice field. Year after year, it adds up.
