Seantrel Henderson (Buffalo Bills)

The two biggest things we have going for us in the Henderson recruitment is two things IMO.....

1.JD Pride and his dad really like Michigan and the older Pride handles Henderson's recruitment. I believe that the Prides are related to a few current Michigan players.

2. We have already gotten him on campus. The reason this is so important is because much like Pryors recruitment i doubt he takes the visits he says he will. He is into basketball big time to so he has a very conflicting schedule. If you haven't noticed he keeps on telling writers that he is going take visits but still hasn't and has missed several visits that he supposedly had planned.

It should be interesting though because some insiders are real confident that we lead and others think we sit behind USC. Part of that could be the fact that some michigan insiders pretty much concede recruits to usc because of our past history recruiting against them.

It's July...his recuitment is far from over. I think he'll end up at USC or Minny. scUM may or may not lead at this point, but who leads now is irrelevant. February is a long way off. scUM's upcoming season won't help their chances either....let's be honest here....they're going to stink up the joint again, especially with a true freshman QB starting.

That could either hurt or help us... remains to be seen though.

That's exactly right, which is mildly annoying, as Michigan has won its fair share of battles against USC just as they've lost them. They've taken Rojo and Nick Perry, we've taken Warren, Schilling and Mouton. Nobody remembers those though, because USC is on a different planet than everybody else and is barely phased when they lose star recruits, even from their own backyard.

There are some Michigan fans who legitimately hate USC more than Ohio State, all because of Ronald Johnson. He was a UM "lock" for more than a year, UM was the only school to stick with him when he tore his knee up, and he was a "silent" commitment before his senior year of HS, and then he mysteriously goes silent when he returns from USC. The mods at both The Fort and GBW essentially said (without directly saying it), "they paid his mom."

Which reminds me...that is a factor in Henderson's recruitment, too. If the NCAA brings the reaper to USC before NSD 2010 (yeah, like that'll ever happen), there is almost no chance 'Trel goes there. The Henderson camp is very concerned about the allegations surrounding that program.

JD doesn't have an offer though, AFAIK.

This is also correct, and I doubt that changes at any point. Unless Pride shows great skill playing a different position (skill he has not shown up to this point), there won't be any room for him at Michigan, because we've got our two QBs for this class. Even if guys like Drake and Dileo get a slight...nudge...that directs them to other schools, it would be for more prominent recruits. UM has to be very selective from here on out...the only possible way I could see Pride getting a scholarship would be if some of the big guys UM is after now go off the board elsewhere and there are extra slots open around signing day. Even then, UM would probably bank the scholarship for next year. And these "package deals" almost never pan out. Michigan fans heard Jonas Gray and Kenny Demens say for months that they were a package deal, right up until the point that Gray committed to Nebraska and Demens to Michigan a month later.

If Pride needed an offer to close the deal with Henderson, there is no doubt in my mind Rod would give him one.

The Seantrel Henderson Sweepstakes

It isn't very often you get the consensus #1 recruit in the country playing in your home state. So let this be the first of regular installments giving you the latest on the recruiting circus surrounding Seantrel Henderson. Below is a map with the schools most often associated with the Seantrel Sweepstakes. As Henderson schedules his unofficial and official visits I will update with dates and links. I will also add and/or drop schools as I get relevant information requiring me to do so.

Here are some very important things to know about the nation's number one college football recruit...

?He plans to make his decision during one of the post-season All-Star games. Both ESPN's Under Armour and the Army All-American games are courting him for obvious reasons.
?Basketball remains his first love and is considering playing both in college. But he knows his meal-ticket is football so that will be the priority.
?Plays football for Minnesota powerhouse, Cretin-Derham Hall. The Raiders have been a recruiting pipeline for Notre Dame in recent years but Henderson does not seem real high on the Irish.
?Remember the name J.D. Pride II. The dual-threat QB plays for Totino Grace (another local privat school with a history of very good football), is a very good friend of Seantrel's and his father is a sort of mentor/advisor/consultant to Seantrel. While the two are not officially a package deal, it is rumored that they would enjoy playing together at the next level. Pride's offer sheet begins and ends with Minnesota but he has interest from Ohio St, Wis, S Car, UNC, Alabama, etc.
?Has publicly stated that distance isn't a factor, but also is very family oriented and wants his family to be able to see him play. Something there will have to give. Michigan fans want to think that playing "a few times" in Minnesota will suffice if he chooses Michigan but his only trip to Minneapolis would be 2012 (they do not play in 2010, away in 2011, home in 2012).
