A Youngstown man was in Trumbull County Jail late tonight, charged with stabbing an Akron man during a high school football scrimmage here.Police Chief Richard Tisone said Fitzgerald Toussaint, 45, of West Dennick Avenue, is charged with felonious assault.
The chief said the full report would be ready Monday, but he gave this account of what happened based on information he received from his officers.
Around 11 a.m. today, there was a scrimmage between the Liberty High School and Poland Seminary High School football teams at the Liberty field.
Toussaint, who has a son playing for Liberty, showed up at the game, and eventually got into a verbal argument with his ex-wife, who also attended the scrimmage.
As the exchange between the two escalated, the ex-wife’s boyfriend, Darnell Harris, 45, of Rosewell Street, Akron, came over to see what was going on, the chief said.
Tisone said the two men then began to argue, and knives were pulled. The chief said at some point, Toussaint stabbed Harris in the chest.
Harris was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where a hospital spokeswoman said he released later today after treatment.
Toussaint had come to see his son, also named Fitzgerald Toussaint.
The Liberty senior, one of the Mahoning Valley’s top running backs, has rushed for more than 1,000 yards for each of the last two seasons. He is a senior and has verbally committed to the University of Michigan.

That HAS to be some kind of record for futility.27 carries, 27 yards...a stat line for the ages.
