This just in from Komen about Nancy Brinker’s salary.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure wanted to spread the word in a hurry that Nancy Brinker has taken a $159,000 pay cut.
Komen’s 67-year-old founder is slated to be paid $390,000 in calendar year 2014 in her new role as chairwoman of global strategy. That’s down from the $549,000 she was paid in calendar 2012 as chief executive. And it is 42 percent less than the $673,215 in salary and performance bonus she received in calendar 2011. Her compensation came under fire last year during a highly public and nasty controversy involving the canceling of funding to Planned Parenthood.

What the fuck does awareness have to do with fucking curing the disease? Saying it's fund raising is EXACTLY what it is - calling it "raising awareness" gives morons a warm fuzzy to feel like they've actually done something....

It's part of the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality that is destroying 'Murica!

I like hearing the stories where a woman saw that the NFL was doing whatever for breast cancer awareness, and she made an appointment to get checked out, and they caught the cancer in time and yay she's a survivor. I'm glad for those women. But those stories are very very rare. (I was going to say "not worth the money", but then I'd have to put a price on a life, and I can't do that.) The NFL isn't doing it for those stories - they're doing it for the fund raising and publicity.

Read an article one that said about .01 of every dollar given to Komman actually goes to cancer research. The rest goes to overhead and salaries. It's a scam.
Meanwhile the top medical research and college hospitals are STILL pitifully underfunded.
If you wish to give money to fund cancer research write your check to OSU's cancer research department. It's equally tax deductible and 100% of the money will go to research and equipment. If not OSU then any school researching will do. But please do not fund Komman.

Kinch, all the other stuff aside, is there an organization that you can pimp here? I mean, Komen's even getting the "all publicity is good publicity" stuff now.

The James and the new Breast Cancer building at tOSU are both really good. But I don't specifically have a place to pimp out. I just each year instead and try to raise "awareness" to donating to other foundations.

And always research the charities, the differences in "overhead" are enormous. Sometimes 80% of what is received goes to actual research, sometimes 1%.

Ex-fucking-actly. You see all these women out of 5k charity walks, beaming on "how we're making a difference". No, you ain't...you're out on a silly-assed walk so you can feel good about yourself and hang out with similar women. You want to make a difference? Take that $50 entry fee and donate it directly to a cancer research fund instead. But no, if you did that you wouldn't get the "look at me!" moments and a silly T-shirt you can wear around for the next few years showing what a great force against cancer you are...
