Scratching cat in lap blamed for causing accident

MODESTO, Calif. - Modesto police are blaming a scratching cat for an accident that toppled a power pole and shut down a street for nearly an hour. A police sergeant said Friday that a woman was driving with a cat in her lap. The animal scratched her, and she drove into the pole.

The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. The cat was taken to a vet to treat an injured eye.

On Wednesday, the Assembly Appropriations Committee approved a bill by Assemblyman Bill Maze that would make it illegal to drive with a pet in your arms or in your lap.

Responsible pet "parents" don't drive with their animal loose in the car just like a responsible parent won't drive with their child not in a car seat. Laws won't make stupid people any smarter.

Not really a thread for this but I don't want to start a new one for it either. This one is at least close.

My cat tore my leg up today. He was DEAD asleep on my lap, that kind of so deep asleep thing cats do that they melt and elongate and practically drip?
I'm watching a shark show, hardly moving, not even petting him, and out of the freaking blue, he fluffed up, jumped up and launched his ass off my lap,
claws out and sunk into my calf for leverage. I have three, count em, THREE, crescent moon shaped GOUGES in my freaking calf where he pushed himself off my lap.

I look like I got mauled by a freaking COUGAR!

I nearly had a major accident in high school because I didn't know the neighbor's overly friendly cat had crawled through the back window for a nap. She woke up and decided to bounce via my shoulder into my lap just as I pulled onto the highway. I don't think she'd been in a car before... very nearly had her first transport via eighteen-wheeler as well.

Tao, sounds like my basement growing up. With an unfinished ceiling and a good air duct/elevated highway system, you never knew when to expect an attack from above.
