QB Mitch Mustain leads No. 7 Springdale (Ark)

In this week’s National Football Top 25, North Penn (Pa.) drops out of the rankings after it was crushed by Neshaminy (Pa.), which moves into the rankings thanks to its big win.
Rankings as of Oct. 24, 2005
1. Mission Viejo (Mission Viejo, Calif.) – (7-0) *1
Last Game: Defeated Capo Valley, 62-0.
Notes: The Diablos crushed Capo Valley to remain undefeated. In seven games this season, Mission Viejo has outscored its opponents 366-94.
2. Lakeland (Lakeland, Fla.) – (8-0) *2
Last Game: Did not play.
Notes: The Dreadnaughts are scheduled to play Osceola on Oct. 28.
3. Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) – (8-0) *3
Last Game: Defeated Keller, 66-14.
Notes: Senior quarterback Greg McElroy completed 20-of-31 passes for 309 yards and seven touchdowns, including two to senior wide receiver Clint Renfro, as the Dragons cruised past Keller.
4. Bellevue (Bellevue, Wash.) – (7-0) *4
Last Game: Defeated Interlake, 62-7.
Notes: Bellevue captured its 30th consecutive win thanks to Anthony McQueen, who ran for three touchdowns and returned an interception 47 yards for another score.
5. Longview (Longview, Texas) – (8-0) *5
Last Game: Did not play.
Notes: The Lobos will take on North Mesquite on Oct. 28.
6. Independence (Charlotte, N.C.) – (8-0) *6
Last Game: Defeated Myers Park, 30-13.
Notes: The Patriots’ win over Myers Park was their 85th consecutive victory overall.
7. Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.) – (9-0) *7
Last Game: Defeated Dorman, 45-17.
Notes: Senior running back/defensive back Prince Miller, who has committed to Georgia, scored three touchdowns and junior quarterback Willy Korn completed 25-of-42 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns as Byrnes won its 19th consecutive game.
8. Springdale (Springdale, Ark.) – (8-0) *8
Last Game: Defeated Van Buren, 42-7.
Notes: Senior quarterback Mitch Mustain completed 14-of-20 passes for 358 yards and six touchdowns in less than two quarters of action.
9. Landstown (Virginia Beach, Va.) – (8-0) *9
Last Game: Defeated First Colonial, 50-18.
Notes: Senior quarterback Donnie Kirby threw for 443 yards and four touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns, while senior wide receiver Damon McDaniel caught 10 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns and senior wide receiver Percy Harvin caught seven passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns. However, according to The Virginian-Pilot, Harvin, who has scored 27 total touchdowns this year, “was ejected with 10:57 left after an altercation with a First Colonial defender.” As a result, Harvin will have to miss Landstown’s next game against Green Run on Nov. 4.
10. Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) – (8-0) *10
Last Game: Defeated Highland, 42-14.
Notes: Senior quarterback Colby Harris completed 6-of-7 passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another two scores to guide Hamilton to another strong win.
11. Glenville (Cleveland, Ohio) – (9-0) *11
Last Game: Defeated Lincoln-West, 56-0.
Notes: Another game, another big shutout win for Glenville. The Tarblooders will play at Cleveland JFK (7-2) on Oct. 28.
12. Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.) – (8-0) *12
Last Game: Defeated Central Dauphin, 42-0.
Notes: McDevitt clinched a District 3 playoff spot by blanking Central Dauphin.
13. Joliet Catholic (Joliet, Ill.) – (9-0) *13
Last Game: Defeated Nazareth, 43-16.
Notes: Senior running back Joe Benson ran for 147 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries as the Hilltoppers concluded the regular season by winning their 28th consecutive game. Benson had a phenomenal regular season as he ran for 1,596 yards and 24 touchdowns. The Hilltoppers, who won the Class 5A state title last year, will play Rich Central in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs on Oct. 28.
14. La Marque (La Marque, Texas) – (7-0) *14
Last Game: Defeated Friendswood, 35-17.
Notes: La Marque was led by senior quarterback L.J. Castile, who completed 6-of-9 passes for 127 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 130 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
15. Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas) – (8-0) *15
Last Game: Defeated Huntsville, 38-6.
Notes: Junior quarterback Jeremy Clayborn completed 9-of-13 passes for 160 yards and tossed four touchdown passes to four different receivers.
16. Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) – (9-1) *16
Last Game: Defeated Broad Ripple, 75-14, in the first round of the Sectional 5 playoffs.
Notes: Warren Central bounced back from its loss to Lawrence North by domination Broad Ripple. The Warriors racked up 506 yards rushing, including 181 yards on just three carries by junior fullback Darren Evans, who scored on all three attempts. Warren Central will play Lawrence Central in the Sectional 5 semifinals on Oct. 28.
17. Abilene (Abilene, Texas) – (8-0) *17
Last Game: Defeated Odessa Permian, 45-21.
Notes: Senior quarterback Taylor Potts, who has committed to Texas Tech, completed 16-of-23 passes for 272 yards and four touchdowns to lead Abilene past Permian.
18. St. Xavier (Cincinnati, Ohio) – (9-0) *19
Last Game: Defeated St. Ignatius, 22-0.
Notes: St. Xavier blanked St. Ignatius, marking the first time St. Ignatius had been shut out in a regular-season game. Sophomore running back Darius Ashley led the offensive attack by running for 136 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.
19. Gilman (Baltimore, Md.) – (6-0) *20
Last Game: Did not play.
Notes: The Greyhounds will play at Loyola on Oct. 29.
20. Camden County (Kingsland, Ga.) – (9-0) *21
Last Game: Defeated Johnson Savannah, 46-7.
Notes: Camden County looks to finish the regular season undefeated when it plays Bradwell Institute on Oct. 28.
21. St. Joseph’s Prep (Philadelphia, Pa.) – (7-1) *22
Last Game: Defeated La Salle, 21-14.
Notes: Jamir Livingston’s 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter propelled St. Joseph’s Prep to a narrow win over La Salle.
22. Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.) – (9-0) *23
Last Game: Defeated Joliet, 49-14.
Notes: Senior quarterback Anthony Kropp threw four touchdown passes and ran for another score as Lincoln-Way East enters the playoffs undefeated. Lincoln-Way East will take on Thornton in the first round of the Class 8A playoffs.
23. Riverdale (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) – (9-0) *24
Last Game: Defeated Lebanon, 34-21.
Notes: Senior running back Gaston Miller ran for 146 yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries as Riverdale clinched a share of its 15th straight region/district title and won its 24th consecutive game and 69th consecutive region/district regular-season game.
24. Westfield (Spring, Texas) – (6-0) *25
Last Game: Defeated Baytown Sterling, 49-0.
Notes: Westfield’s defense notched its second shutout of the season by limiting Sterling to just 70 total yards. Senior running back Terrance Sweeney ran for 205 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
25. Neshaminy (Langhorne, Pa.) – (7-1) *NR
Last Game: Defeated then-No. 18 North Penn, 41-13.
Notes: Neshaminy enters the rankings after crushing then-nationally ranked North Penn. Senior running back Jarred Kinney ran for 217 yards and four touchdowns.
Dropped Out:
No. 18 North Penn (Landsdale, Pa.) – (7-1)
Last Game: Lost to then-unranked Neshaminy, 41-13.
Notes: North Penn drops out after it was crushed by Neshaminy. Senior tight end/defensive end Josh Neubert provided both scores for the Knights with a 57-yard touchdown reception and a 43-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.
