Scenarios for Final CFP Playoff Rankings

No one wants to face Trevor Lawrence and his 8 interceptions against horrible ACC teams.

Really?

I disagree. Jalen Hurts is a better QB and athlete, without question. Lamb is a better WR than all of Clemson’s WRs combined. He is a future NFL record breaker, along the lines of Michael Thomas.

Does Clemson have a better defense? Who knows! They haven’t played a single opponent worth a damn. Might as well line up a schedule full of FCS competition. The ACC is that bad.

Part of the calculus imo is playing Clemson after theyve had to face an opponent and put their game on tape.
How do you prep for them right now? Watch last years tape ?

Here's (somewhat) of an explanation of how the venue's are chosen for each team.

"In talking to (executive director of the College Football Playoff) Bill Hancock, what Bill told me is that the selection committee will advantage the number one team and their fans without disadvantaging them," Peach Bowl, Inc. CEO & President Gary Stokan said.

So, advantaging a team without disadvantaging them?

"That may sound like an oxymoron but It's meant to say, okay, Ohio State, if they're number one, in this case, we would want to put them in a place that geographically is good for their fans to get there and advantages their team and their fans," Stokan said.

Stokan would go on with a hypothetical where the Buckeyes take care of their business, end up as the top-ranked team and the selection process takes special consideration for Ohio State under these parameters.

"Let's say (they were to face) Georgia," Stokan said. "Now, wouldn't want to put them in Atlanta. So, they would take that matchup, in Atlanta (Georgia), if the season was over Ohio State and Georgia and move it out to Phoenix."

at this point we’re in ... who gives a crap about rankings.. rankings dont matter at this point its all about matchups.... which team do we want 3 weeks to prepare for vs which team for a week....

This

I am just going to sit here and revel in the glory of this season and smile through the searing hangover knowing there are two more just like it coming up

Given the reality and unpredictability of injuries as an issue in a Championship run, it might be optimal to play your best playoff opponent in the first game. I'm not sure that the ranking matters as much as maximizing your chance of the best performance against your best opponent.

Very interesting way to look at it. The additional prep time for the semifinal is an advantage to gameplan for your opponent. Similiar to when OSU won in '14. The Semi might as well have been the NCG vs. Bama. It sure felt like it when OSU won.

There's a possibility that the committee will keep tOSU number 1, but make them go to Arizona to play Oklahoma, because they'll want to have LSU-Clemson play in Atlanta for the overall benefit to all fan bases. Because #1 doesn't really get to pick, they just make sure they're not screwed.

Sign me up for that.

They should be more worried about how to prep for Ohio State or LSU. They haven’t faced anywhere near this level of competition all year. They have to adjust and go from 0 to 150.

Both of these top two squads have faced off against good to great teams. They’ve battled. Yes, Clemson might be more healthy, but they also haven’t had to play against anything in the realm of LSU or Ohio State.

Don’t be surprised if Clemson’s heads are spinning in the first half, regardless of who they play. These lines, QBs, RBs, etc. are ready for war. Is Clemson? Guess we’ll find out.

This has been my opinion for a few weeks now. They need to market the entire tournament, not just try to simulate some kind of home field for #1.

OSU and X out west while SEC and ACC play in ATL just makes sense and I think they’ll massage rankings to make that happen.

If they don’t, fuck it. Who cares?

The one poster that already bought tickets, for sure.

Ed Orgeron: 'Doesn't matter' where CFP selection committee ranks LSU

Retaking the No. 1 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings wasn't a goal of LSU coach Ed Orgeron and his players after they beat No. 4 Georgia 37-10 in the SEC championship game on Saturday.

Orgeron said his team isn't concerned with whether the selection committee sees fit to have it retake the top spot from Ohio State, which leapfrogged LSU from No. 2 to No. 1 two weeks ago. The Buckeyes also finished the season 13-0 after rallying to beat No. 8 Wisconsin 34-21 in the Big Ten title game later Saturday night.

"I think we're a darn good football team," Orgeron said. "We don't know. I've told the team it doesn't matter. It don't matter where they rank us, where they tell us to go. We've got to win the next game. That's all that matters."

LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, who transferred from Ohio State before the start of last season, said it doesn't matter where or whom the Tigers play in the first round of the playoff.

"We'll play anybody, anywhere," he said. "I said in the postgame, you can take us to Canada, and we'll play on a gravel lot."

However, a tweet from the team's official account took a more declarative stance on the matter, calling LSU "second to none."
