COLUMBUS, Ohio - Twenty days worth of practices conducted by head coach Greg Beals and his staff are in the books. The Buckeyes have been divided into a Scarlet team and a Gray team. The pitching matchups are set. Now...it's time to play some fall baseball!
The Ohio State baseball team's annual "Fall Classic," the Scarlet & Gray World Series, will begin Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Bill Davis Stadium with a Scarlet vs. Gray game that will match two-thirds of Ohio State's Big Ten weekend rotation from a year ago: senior pitchers Drew Rucinski (Scarlet) and Dean Wolosiansky (Gray).
Game 2 will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. with sophomore Brett McKinney taking the mound for the Scarlet and true freshman Greg Greve throwing for the Gray.
A couple of transfers will take to the mound in Game 3 Saturday at 3 p.m.: second-year freshman John Kuchno, who attended Wake Forest last year but didn't play baseball and is thus eligible to pitch in the spring, will start for Scarlet against Gray newcomer Brad Goldberg, a junior who spent his first two seasons at Coastal Carolina.
"You could say the rotations we have established for this series of games consists of six guys we are looking at as potential starters for us next year," Beals said.

    Scarlet takes Game One 7-1

Game 1 goes to the Scarlet

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Behind five strong innings from starter Drew Rucinski and at least one hit from nine different players, the Scarlet team took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five Scarlet & Gray World Series with a 7-1 victory over the Gray Wednesday evening at Bill Davis Stadium.
Rucinski breezed through five shutout innings, giving up just three hits and one free pass while striking out five. Gray starter Dean Wolosiansky gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out a pair over 4.1 innings pitched for Gray.
Sophomore Ryan Cypret went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI while sophomore Brad Hallberg finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for Scarlet. Senior shortstop Tyler Engle paced the Gray squad, going 2-for-2 with a walk.
After both pitchers cruised through the first two innings, Scarlet catcher Steel Russell led off the bottom of the third with a single off Wolosiansky. Russell advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Derek Hannahs and, after a punchout of Hunter Mayfield, scored on a single through the left side by Cypret to give Scarlet a 1-0 lead after three.

Gray evens series with 2-0 win

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Behind a strong performance from freshman starter Greg Greve, Gray evened the Scarlet & Gray World Series at one game apiece with a 2-0 victory Friday afternoon at Bill Davis Stadium. "We are starting to play good baseball little by little," head coach Greg Beals said. "Our starting pitchers were good today outside of the two walks that led to runs. Our defense is turning double plays, taking care of the ball and really helping our pitchers."
The only two runs of the game came after a pair of leadoff walks by sophomore starter Brett McKinney in the bottom of the second. Greveled off with a free pass and was followed by Jacob Hayes. Greve came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Greg Solomon and Hayes scored on an RBI groundout by Phil Jaskot.

    Gray forces Game 5
