CBS/AP) Fourteen Marines and a civilian interpreter were killed Wednesday when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb in western Iraq. One Marine was also wounded.
The Marines were members of the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines – the same Ohio-based battalion that lost six Marines two days ago, a spokesman said.
Wednesday's explosion occurred just outside Haditha, which is 140 miles northwest of Baghdad.
The Marines were riding in an amphibious assault vehicle, which is designed to carry troops from ship to shore and on land. It has a road speed of about 45 mph and can carry up to 25 Marines. It is not as heavily armored as the Bradley fighting vehicles that the army uses.
The names of those killed were not released.
