Saving mpg clips with Windows Vista

  • Fuck, how I hate Microsoft. With Vista, you can't do jack shit, because they do everything in their power to keep you from "hurting yourself". Even when I finally found the backdoor to get into my Temporary Internet Files folder content, and figured out that Internet Explorer has to be out of the default "Protected Mode" to cache files, Vista won't save mpg clips as .mpg files, but rather as some sort of .dat file (although the files extention reads ".mpg"). And the latest version of Windows Media Player (bundled with Vista) no longer comes with a "save file as..." option like it did before. So no matter what I do I can't save neomits' HD clip of Beanie's 62-yard TD against Michigan yesterday. Anyone know what to do to subvert this shit?

Did I mention I fucking hate Microsoft?

Use Firefox or Opera instead of Internet Explorer. When you click on the link, instead of directly opening WMP, they give you the option to save the file.

*Edit: Okay, I figured out how to download it from Internet Explorer (I've only had Vista for about two weeks.) When WMP opens, right click on the black bar at the top, anywhere except one of the buttons. Go to File and then save as. You can also click classic menus to get the menus you would see in older versions.
