Saturday’s in Columbus aren’t exclusively reserved for 100,000 + in Ohio Stadium who are cheering on Elliott, Bell, Jones, or Thomas. Though, that environment is indeed contagious. But those that cannot afford $200 plus for 1 seat, who can easily DVR the game and watch it later should take a stroll to Fred Beekman Park located at 2200 Carmack Road @ the corner of Kenny Road and Lane Avenue to have an equally electrifying good time and watch the Buckeyes Men’s Rugby Club in action.
The names that will be learned quickly upon this delightful excursion will be Harmon, Hildebrant, Eramo, Grose, and Cua to mention but a few.
These young men are The Buckeyes too.
Just as the Football Squad led by Urban Meyer is dominating all of the attention as they cruised to a 2-0 record the OSU Men’s Rugby Club posted an impressive victory against Pitt 57-7 this past Saturday (09/12). They too are undefeated. And just as Coach Meyer is deeply proud of his gladiators Coach Tom Rooney is equally as proud of his warriors.
The try leaders of this monumental victory were Cory Harmon with 3, Ian Hildebrant with 3, and Jo Jo Eramo with 2. The crucial moment that came prior to half as the Buckeyes led 12-0 which led to their eventual explosion was when Pitt lost the ball and the Buckeyes capitalized with a score – making it 19-0 as the half came. From there it was nothing but Scarlet and Gray as the Buckeyes posted an inspiring 57-7 victory.
It’s onto Game 2. The Buckeyes travel north and will play Bowling Green at their home field – Poe Ditch Field @ 1:00 p.m. on Saturday 09/19. The Falcons are currently 2-0, having beaten University of Louisville on 09/04 60-15 and WVA last weekend 09/12 61-5; impressive in their own right against two D1A teams.
But what does this all mean?
It merely means that the Buckeyes are 1-0 and the Falcons are 2-0.
The Buckeyes have a wonderful history in all of its sporting programs. This includes Rugby. The “Clum” is a top challenger for the Midwest title. OSU claimed the Midwest Championship and 3rd in the National Championship in 1990 and 1991. The OSU A team came in 2nd place in the 2014 BTU Rugby Championship with the B team winning their Championship game.
This is 2015. Just as the football team is loaded with players from their Championship run last year – the Rugby team is as well.
It is important I feel to repost this team’s upcoming schedule:

Now go take care of those overly confident Falcons and make them 2-1.
