Baseball is guaranteed $$ while football is not...if I was a borderline player, that could make the difference.

Hmmm... yeah... the good thing is that he's older than most kids who have to make this choice (good reason to go to college, eh?)...

I'd have to research it, but my gut says that [hopefully] his football success will give him some leverage in baseball (Better signing bonus). He seems like a fine athlete, so really it probably comes down to 40 times vs. Velocity.

So, my question then becomes is he elible for this coming MLB draft (I always forget how that works... ) He need not even be taken especially high, but he might still be able to get a good deal. But, of course, that means he'd possibly/likely not be back at ND in the fall if some club makes him an offer he can't refuse.

Ol Miss QB Jake Gibbs faced the same choice in the early 60s. Branch Ricky convinced him with this argument: "What do you want kid, a career or a limp?" Gibbs signed with the Yankees. I love to watch football (and seldom watch baseball since the strikes and the arrogance of Red's owners), but let's be honest here, football is a brutal way to make a living.

You can come back to football if baseball doesn't work out. Can't go the other way. For the pro's, take the $$$$ from baseball. That said, signing pro straight out of HS for a 2 sport star is not necessarily smart-you can still play rookie league ball and make plenty of $$ while playing football or hoops-Ricky Williams, Kenny Lofton.

If it is between MLB and NFL than I choose Baseball...more money, longer careers, not as tough on the body...

BUT...you don't go straight to the MLB like you do to the NFL. You go to minor league baseball...and minor league baseball has lower pay, and sometimes is a dead end. It's hard to get out of the minors. So...if u are sure fire NFL draft pick, but you'd probably be in the minors if u went with baseball, i may choose football.
